As the children grew, so did their world. School became more complicated. Friendships more fragile. One afternoon, Liam came home unusually quiet. “Hey,” Hailey said gently. “What’s wrong?” He shrugged. “Nothing.” She sat beside him. “Try again.” He hesitated. “Someone said I’m not good at anything,” he admitted quietly. Hailey’s heart tightened. “Who said that?” “It doesn’t matter,” he said quickly. But it did. Adrian walked in just in time to hear the last part. He crouched in front of Liam. “Listen to me,” he said calmly. Liam looked up. “You don’t get to decide your worth based on what someone else says,” Adrian continued. “You decide it by what you do, how you try, and who you are.” Liam frowned. “But what if they’re right?” Adrian shook his head. “They’re not.” He placed a hand on Liam’s shoulder. “You’re still learning. That doesn’t make you bad—it makes you human.” Liam’s eyes softened slightly. And for the first time… He smiled again. That night, after the kids were asleep… Hailey stood by the window. “You handled that well,” she said softly. Adrian joined her. “I wish someone had told me that when I was younger,” he admitted. She looked at him. “You turned out okay.” He smiled faintly. “Because I had to,” he said. “Not because I knew how.” She reached for his hand. “But they don’t have to struggle the same way,” she said. “We can give them something different.” He nodded. “And we will.” TO BE CONTINUED
