307 Words
Everything fell apart a week later. A major company deal collapsed. Millions lost. Reputation damaged. And worst of all… Confidential information had been leaked. “Someone inside did this,” Adrian said coldly. The board was furious. Everyone was under suspicion. Then— Evidence surfaced. Emails. Access logs. Records. All pointing to one person. Hailey. She stood frozen as the accusations filled the room. “I didn’t do this!” she said, her voice breaking. But the evidence was clear. Too clear. Adrian looked at her. His expression unreadable. “Explain.” “I can’t!” she cried. “Because I don’t know how this happened!” Silence. Then— She’s lying. Hailey’s heart shattered. Because for the first time… That thought came from Adrian. That night, Hailey sat alone. Broken. But something didn’t feel right. The evidence was too perfect. Too clean. She closed her eyes. And focused. Listening. To everyone. Every thought. Every whisper. And then— She heard it. From someone unexpected. She took the fall perfectly. No one will suspect me. Hailey’s eyes snapped open. “Marcus…” The head of operations. The one person no one suspected. Hailey stormed into the office the next morning. “You need to listen to me,” she told Adrian. “I’ve heard enough,” he said coldly. “No—you haven’t!” She grabbed his arm. “Just trust me one last time.” He hesitated. Then— Why do I still want to believe her…? “Fine,” he said. “One chance.” Together, they confronted Marcus. At first, he denied everything. Calm. Confident. Until Hailey spoke. “You said, ‘She took the fall perfectly.’” Marcus froze. Adrian’s eyes narrowed. “How would she know that?” Marcus stayed silent. Too silent. That was all it took.
