CHAPTER TWELVE: THE FALL AND THE RISE

339 Words
Marcus was exposed. Fired. Arrested. The truth came out. Hailey was innocent. But the damage… The betrayal… The doubt… Still lingered. Adrian stood in front of her. “I’m sorry.” Two simple words. But they meant everything. Hailey looked at him. “You didn’t trust me.” “I know.” “And that hurt.” “I know.” Silence. Then— “I don’t want to read your mind anymore,” she said softly. He frowned. “Why?” “Because I want to hear what you choose to tell me.” That night, Hailey returned to the street where it all began. The old woman was there. Waiting. “I want to give it back,” Hailey said. The woman smiled. “Are you sure?” “Yes.” “Why?” Hailey thought of Adrian. Of everything they had been through. “Because love shouldn’t need mind-reading.” The old woman nodded. “And now… you understand.” She touched Hailey’s forehead gently. And just like that… The voices disappeared. Silence. Peace. Back at the office… Adrian stood in front of her. “You seem… different.” “I am.” He stepped closer. “No more mind reading?” She shook her head. “No more shortcuts.” He smiled slightly. “Then I guess I’ll have to say things out loud.” Hailey smiled. “I’d like that.” He took a breath. Then said the words he had been thinking for so long. “I care about you.” Hailey’s heart melted. “Good,” she said softly. “Because I care about you too.” And this time… She didn’t need to hear his thoughts to know it was real. Months later… The company was thriving. Stronger than ever. And in a quiet corner office… Two people stood side by side. No secrets. No fear. No mind-reading. Just trust. And love. Sometimes, the greatest connection… Isn’t knowing everything someone thinks. It’s choosing to understand them anyway. TO BE CONTINUED........ 😊
