CHAPTER ONE: THE INTERVIEW
The building was intimidating.
Tall. Sleek. Powerful.
The kind of place where people either made their lives—or lost their confidence trying.
Hailey stepped inside, trying to steady her breathing.
You can do this. Just be calm. Just be smart. Just don’t mess up.
“Name?” the receptionist asked.
“Hailey Grant. I have an interview for the executive assistant position.”
The receptionist nodded. “Top floor. You’ll be meeting the CEO directly.”
Hailey froze.
“The… CEO?”
“Yes.”
Her stomach dropped.
Why is the CEO interviewing me directly?!
This was supposed to be a normal job interview, not a life-or-death judgment from the most powerful person in the company.
But there was no turning back now.
The elevator ride felt like it lasted forever.
Ding.
The doors opened.
And Hailey stepped into silence.
The top floor was quiet. Too quiet. Everything looked expensive—polished floors, glass walls, minimal design. It screamed power and control.
“Miss Grant?”
Hailey turned.
A tall man stood at the far end of the hall.
Sharp suit. Cold expression. Eyes that looked like they could see through lies before they were even spoken.
“Follow me,” he said.
No smile.
No warmth.
Nothing.
Great. I’m doomed.
