CHAPTER 3 Claire felt great in the morning – much better than she had expected. When she put her feet on the floor, she expected a sharp pain on her left sole where the blister was, but none came. Still sitting on the edge of her bed, Claire picked her foot up in her hands and peered at it with a frown. Where the previous day there had been a golf ball sized, sickeningly ugly blister, there was only some loose skin that had not yet had the chance to return to its normal state. Claire balked. She had never seen a blister heal that fast. She had had her fair share of them. She enjoyed walks in the countryside, and she was fond of high heels – much more so than her feet were.
