First day as a Hero

1154 Words
The sun is starting to set down, signaling the end of the day. A boy in a light green-blue costume can be seen dragging himself towards the United Heroes headquarters. Max couldn’t believe that his first day as a hero has just finished, and it is more tiring than what he could imagine. Looking at the building in front of him, he is relieved that his job for the day has been ended. All that’s left for him to do is to report his mission for today as well as handing the footage from the HeroPro camera that he has taken. The United Heroes headquarters is still brimming with people even though the nighttime is approaching. Moving from the reception area where the ordinary people use it, Max is going to the third floor, which is designated for D-rank heroes. Entering the floor, it is like your usual reception and waiting area, but there’s a large screen on the side that is constantly being refreshed. What’s inside the screen is the list of mission that is available to be taken from the mission board. Besides taking them through the website, a hero could do it manually by coming to the headquarters and taking the mission through the D-rank receptionist. However, it will take too much time to go back and forth to the headquarters. That is why, most of the time, people will register the mission through the website and only come to the headquarters to turn the mission in with the proof of mission completion to get their rewards. Since it is the evening, many D-rank heroes submit their works for the day so Max needs to wait for his turn to arrive. So he waited for some time and finally it is his turn. “Good evening. How may I help you?” “Ah, I am here to turn my work for the day.” “Oh, are you a new D-rank hero? Wait, could it be that you’re one of the new batches that just gotten their license yesterday?” “Yes. I had just gotten my license yesterday. So my hero’s name will be Air Hero.” “Wow. This is only the first day, and you’re taking a mission already? Not to mention that you have come up with the hero’s name and the costume. It seemed that you’re really prepared.” “It’s not like that. This is already prepared for me.” “Nevertheless. It is still amazing. I am looking forward to your heroic acts. So, you’re here to turn the mission in? you know that you will need to hand me the proof of your heroic acts, right?” “Ah, yes. This is my HeroPro camera. You could check it directly.” The receptionist then took the camera from Max and checked the footage. It shows how hard Max is working hard as a hero today. From helping an old man’s request to pick up the trash in the park to taking a balloon of a crying child that is stuck on a tree when he let it go. There’s a lot of work that Max has done, and he feels pretty satisfied with it. He believes that he has helped many people today and done good things. Just like the heroes on the TV that he always dreamt of when he is a child. Max is full of smiles while the receptionist is putting up a wry smile. “You say that your hero’s name will be Air Hero, right?” “Ah, yes. I make sure to introduce myself as Air Hero, and the people I helped today seemed to remember it already.” The receptionist has a weird expression as if he doesn’t know how to explain it to Max. “So, from what I’ve seen from the footage. You didn’t take any mission from the mission board and walk on the street asking people whether there’s something that you could help with, right?” “Yes. I never know that there’re a lot of people needing a hero’s help. I don’t mean to brag, but I sure helped a lot of people today. I’ve done a great job, right?” “Air Hero, I didn’t know what to say. Who tells you to do this? You couldn’t have come up with this idea by yourself, right?” “Ah, it was my big sister. She said that rather than waiting for a mission to be posted on the mission board, I should be proactive and look for the mission instead.” “Mhm. What she said is correct. However, it might be because you are new and don’t understand the D-rank mission that you are doing this. To be honest, I can see that you’re doing more of volunteer work rather than mission. I’m sorry to say this, but what you’re doing today couldn’t be considered a mission. Tell me, what kind of hero is picking up trash in the park? Not to mention helping a neighbor to move place. I know that they are asking for help but do you think it is something that a hero should do?” Max feels great about himself when he does good deeds. However, now he realized what he needs to ask Kalina before she goes to work earlier. It is to determine what kind of criteria or standard will be acceptable for the United Heroes association for his help to be considered as a mission. Thinking about it again, all the heroes on the TV won’t do jobs such as picking up trash or helping random passersby on the road. Even if they did such things, it would only be for building their image rather than completing a mission. “What you can do for today can only be said to be a community service or volunteer works. I am sorry, but the association couldn’t take this as a mission and reward you.” The receptionist tried to sweet talk Max since he couldn’t acknowledge and reward Max for what he has done today and bragged about it earlier. But, Max also didn’t feel angry at all since he believed that it is all reasonable. If there’s a person he feels angry with right now, it will be towards himself to fail to ask Kalina’s about it. Or, he knows that this is Kalina’s way of pulling a prank on him by deliberately not telling him about it.
