Joining Yuna's team

“I have something to attend to and will be away for some time. However, our team has accepted a mission for tomorrow. Can you sub in for me?” “Eh, is that it? But, why me? Isn’t your company have a lot of D-rank heroes that could substitute for you?” “I don’t know exactly, but Yuna makes a request to have you as an outsourced member for this mission. Don’t worry. We will pay you $2,000 per day for this.” Max didn’t see any disadvantages in taking the mission. Not to mention he could experience the feeling of working in a team. This will help him in the future when he is building his squad if he has experience working with one. “I don’t see any reason to refuse.” “Cool. Can you come to the Rising Star Agency tomorrow morning? You will be officially outsourced starting tomorrow.” Closing the call, Max seemed to forget something, and he finally realized. He didn’t consult Kalina about this at all. Because of that, he immediately makes a call to make sure that there will be no problem with this. “Big sis, earlier Ken called me and ask for my help. I immediately accepted it without consulting with you first. Is it alright?” “Oh, so you’ve been informed already? Don’t worry. I am the one who asked Yuna to take you on a mission if she is available. By chance, Ken is going on leave, so this is your chance. Unfortunately, as I am just a private sponsor, I don’t have many connections that I can use to help you nor provide you with a whole team immediately. However, I hope that you could earn a valuable experience from this.” Max feels relieved hearing Kalina’s answer and once again reminded of how much she takes care of him. He already regarded her as his real big sister from a long time ago, and it seemed that she also did the same. The day changed, and Max is now standing in front of the Rising Star Agency. He walks to the reception, and not long after, Joey comes to the front desk to pick him up. He is brought to Yuna’s team office, where Rika and Yuna are already waiting for him. “Alright, since Air is already here, let’s proceed with the mission briefing.” Max sit down beside Yuna and Joey as Rika stands up to explain the mission details. “Our mission this time is to catch a C-rank villain called the Death Doctor. He is a malicious doctor that used to run his own clinic and perform malpractice. Since then, there have been 73 cases where the patient died, and 4 of them is found mutilated inside the clinic.” Hearing the mission detail, Max can see how vicious is the Death Doctor that they plan to catch today. “The Death Doctor was last seen yesterday at a convenience store in district 8. I have accessed the local security camera and found him in a small rented room that he used as a hiding place. Our plan today is to catch him while he is unaware.” Looking at the mission briefing, Max finally experiences what it feels like to be in a team. It was very efficient as every person have a job designated to them. “This is the Death Doctor’s information. He is a C-rank villain with strength appraised at C-, speed C, sensitivity C+, and energy C-. His main element is metal which boasted a strong defence, and it has decent power for attacking at the same time. There hasn’t been any report on his signature move since he rarely engaged in combat and always resorted to running away most of the time. What he has shown us so far is this move, metal shield which is the move he used to stall pursuer as he runs away.” A video is then shown in front of the team with Death Doctor on it. He was showing his moves and the record of him fleeing after summoning the metal shield. Max right now feel the importance of having the overseer in the team as, like this, the team is fully prepared to take on the mission. “Oh, another thing. Air, since you’re new to the team, can you explain to us what are your best move and the thing you’re capable of?” After that, the screen is showing Max’s hero license where his stats is shown. Strength D, Speed D, Sensitivity D, Energy D. “Ah, alright. As you have known, I choose Air Hero's name since my ability is related to wind power. I don’t have any signature move yet, but the move I have the highest proficiency is the wind bullet. I am also capable of the basic movements by utilizing the wind power such as high jump and speed dash.” “Hmm. It’s all basic. I don’t understand why Yuna choose you to substitute for Ken.” Then, as always, Rika spoke harshly to Max, to which he can only reply with a smile. “Well, there’s no particular reason. It’s just that Air’s wind element has good compatibility with me.” “Hmph. I shall be satisfied with that answer for now. However, I feel something fishy. Looking at your stats, you’re just like any newbies that could be found anywhere from the D-rank heroes’ pool. Not to mention you just got your hero license a few months ago. So how could you possibly defeat Crawley?” This is one of the reasons why Yuna agree with Kalina’s suggestion to bring Max on a mission. Three years ago, Yuna experienced the terror of Yann, and yet he managed to be killed by Max. Three months before, Max performed this feat again where he defeated Crawley that is several times stronger than himself. Was Max hiding his true power? Or is there a special reason for this? “Well, if you read the records, I am merely lucky. Three months of hospitalization with my life on the border of death and all the bones in my body cracked. By the way, what do you mean with good element compatibility earlier?”
