Crawley II

Crawley, the lightning terror. Max might be unfamiliar with this name, but it wasn’t the case with the other D-rank hero that is patrolling this area. Crawley, the lightning terror, got his name from his ability that is based on the lightning element. He is a villain that is despised by a lot of heroes. That is because his criminal record involves r**e, murder, and, more importantly, his targets are small girls from the age of five to seven.

He is a degenerate pedophile that has ruined many young girl’s innocence, and it can be seen that right now, Thea has become his new target. The mission pertaining to his capture is ranked as C-rank, but there aren’t many C-rank heroes interested in catching him. That is because there are other missions that are much better to be taken.

Although a hero shouldn’t pick their mission, heroes are human too. It is human nature to seek profit, and although they despised Crawley, none are interested in taking the mission. Mainly it is because of what Crawley has explained previously.

His ability is nearing that of B-rank, and he is a troublesome opponent to face. So far, there have been fifteen heroes that have taken the mission only to ends up in failure. Eleven of them are D-rank heroes trying to get their rank increased, but it turns out they bite more than what they can chew. The result is disastrous, with seven heavily injured, three light injured, and one unfortunate hero killed in action.

Four of the rest are C-rank heroes. However, they still failed the mission too because of Crawley’s lighting elements. Fire, wind, water, and earth are one of the most commonly seen elements. As for the rest that is unique, like lightning, they are harder to face and usually more potent than typical elements.

It is only a matter of time before Crawley’s rank is increased to B-rank, and then there might be a B-rank hero that can subdue him. However, right now, his mission on the C-rank mission board has become one of the most avoided.

Max, however, doesn’t know about all of this and facing Crawley with cautiousness. Although Max managed to defeat Yann and Bonio with strength that is considered top tier B-rank and almost reaches A-rank, Max won’t be complacent here.

Not to mention the difficulty is increased with the existence of Thea as the hostage that he needed to rescue.

“What is it, boy? You still won’t leave? Are you perhaps have backup coming in?”

“No, I don’t have any backup, but I need to save her regardless.”

“Okay. Since you insist, I won’t be playing with you anymore. If you meet Yama in hell, tell him that I sent you there.”

Crawley seemed to has run out of patience seeing Max that is still insisting on blocking his way. As he carried Thea with his left hand, he waved his right hand, and a web of lightning quickly comes out from his hand, approaching Max.

Crawley's attack comes very fast as Max tried to dodge by jumping backward. The attack, however more like a snake as it comes following him. Max jumped upwards, but the lightning web still followed him.

“hahaha. It is useless. My lightning snake will follow the target and won’t stop until it bites you.”

Max doesn’t want to believe it at first, but what Crawley said seemed to be true. As Max dodges the attack, he asses Crawley’s attack. The lightning snake itself doesn’t have enormous strength that could kill Max in one hit, but it will still injure him heavily.

If an average person is hit by it, they could become unconscious or lost control of their body for a few minutes due to the shock.

“If I couldn’t dodge it, then I should try another method.”

As Max is now in the air, he doesn’t have any other choice but to use his power to fend off Crawley’s move.

Wind gathered at the palm of his hand into a ball, and Max launched it towards the lightning. The ball of rotated wind is like a miniature of a condensed tornado, and it distorts the lightning upon contact. It consumed the lightning, and after it fully absorbed Crawley’s lightning, it exploded. Sending a strong gust everywhere and it even pushed Max downwards to land on his knee on the ground.

“Oh, not bad. Don’t be happy yet since that was just a casual attack from me. I can roughly see that you should be a mid-class D-rank hero. Not a complete newbie, but it is still far off if you want to defeat me by yourself.”

Crawley then pointed his finger forward. This time, from the tip of his finger, a thin line of lightning comes out. If the lightning attack earlier is as thick as a finger, this time, it is only as thick as a toothpick.

Although the size has been reduced, its speed has been increased to the point that Max can barely notice the attack.

“Not good.”

Max tried his best to dodge the attack by bending his upper body backward, and he barely escaped the attack with the lightning brushed off the tip of his hair and caused a burnt smell on the air.

“You can even dodge that? How about this time?”

Crawley made the same move again, but this time, instead of only one, a couple of lightning bolts as thick as a toothpick is heading towards Max and aiming at different parts of his body to make sure that he won’t be able to dodge it.

Max jumped left and right to evade the attack, but the lightning strike comes too fast. Two of the attack managed to land on his body. It hits his left hand and right leg, and he can feel an electric shock running through his limbs. Right now, his left hand and right leg feel numb and couldn’t be used.

Although Max is still standing, his limbs are paralyzed, and he knows that the situation isn’t good.
