Training start! II

“*huuf*… Give me a break for a moment.” “Oh, are you tired already? We haven’t even started yet.” “Big sis Kalina, are you sure that you’re not doing this on purpose to torture me?” “Of course not. Just so you know, this is a basic exercise that is created for sixth graders. Don’t tell me you can’t even put up a contest against twelve years old brats? Should I lower the difficulty?” After hearing that, Max feels a little bit embarrassed. Although he is very tired right now, how could he take the half-joke half insult calmly? “No, it’s fine. I can do this. *huff* just give me a minute.” The first thing that Kalina asked Max to do is to run. From the moment when they started their training, Max has already run for almost two hours non-stop. Although it can be said that his physique is poor, he should at least have some stamina since he walks to the school every day and to the memorial monument that took two hours by walking. The training, however, isn’t only simple running. At some intervals, Kalina asked Max to sprint to the limit of his speed and then walked for a bit before running again. It is a low-intensity cardio workout at its best. “Are you sure you can keep on going? We’re just getting started.” Max couldn’t even remember what is happening next as the moment he opened his eyes next; his body is sore all over, and he barely able to walk. “Max, what we’re doing here is to prepare your body to be in an optimal condition. We are not trying to make you become an athlete, but your body should be fit enough. For the heroes on the TV that you have seen having perfect abs and such, it was just for a better image. The number of muscles in your body isn’t affecting your superpower.” “But, didn’t you say that training the body will improve the superpower?” “Yes, but training the body with training the muscle is two different things.” Max think about it and realize that it was indeed true. Just like a nice exterior of a car doesn’t mean that the engine is of good quality. “Now, try to close your eyes and try to sense the wind. You said that your power is related to the wind, right? When your body is exhausted, it actually becomes more relaxed and more sensitive to the superpower.” Max followed Kalina’s instructions, and he can clearly feel as if the wind is closer to him than usual. “Try to control it and give orders to it.” Max didn’t know many tricks, so he just asks the wind to do one thing that he knows the best. It wasn’t the wind bullet move that he trained in and used to kill two B-rank criminals. It was a move that seemed pointless, but Max always uses it every night for the past few years. The wind is now moving around Max’s body as if it was embracing him. It can be said as a pointless move, but this is the only thing that Max is adept at and enjoyed. Max might not realize it since he doesn’t have any peer that uses superpowers like him so he didn’t know the significance of the thing he is doing. However, how could Kalina didn’t notice it? “Is this his real talent? Although the move is inefficient and doesn’t have any purpose, the speed at which the wind gather is very quick. Is his sensitivity really this good? I will need to have him go through an assessment test later. For now, let’s not praise him too much.” Kalina said that inside her heart without showing any difference on the outside towards Max. It is not good to praise Max overly since it could make him get complacent. Not to mention that he has an achievement under himself of defeating two B-ranks villains. Kalina needs to make sure that he isn’t heading the wrong path as he grows up. “Alright, try to release your power for now, and after a few seconds, try to summon it again.” Max listened to Kalina’s instruction and unsummon the wind before conjuring it again. This process is being repeated for some time, and it still amazes Kalina at how fast Max is doing this. For Max, this whole process can be said to be opening an entirely new world for him. The whole process is like breathing. Kalina didn’t lie to Max when she said that this training is for the elementary level. The goal of this training is to make sure the students get used to the process of utilizing their superpower. Taking another example of folding an origami paper. The first time you’re folding it, you might be doing it very slowly since you don’t know the steps. The second time, you will be definitely faster than the first time since you have some experience. The result that they are aiming for is where you could be folding the origami without looking at the instructions paper anymore and even doing it quickly while being blindfolded. It is the same with utilizing a superpower. A-rank superhero will be able to conjure his superpower in a matter of seconds or even milliseconds, while a D-rank might take more than ten seconds. Looking at Max’s performance, Kalina starting to believe that it was really Max that killed Bonio and Yann. Although she has confirmed Max’s testimony with the autopsy report, she still has her doubts. However, after seeing Max’s performance right now, the secret to his success in launching the sneak attack might be because of the speed that he is able to conjure his superpower. Although Max’s power is not even reaching the D-rank, the speed that he shows right now might be on par with A-rank heroes. In another real-life example, if A-rank superheroes are like a yacht. The yacht engine is the speed, and the yacht body is the power. Max’s level of power is like using the yacht’s engine on a surfboard. If fighting head-on, the chance of the surfboard being crushed by the yacht on a collision is very high. But, taking the yacht on surprise, the surfboard attacked first when the yacht is unprepared and opened its door. Previously, Kalina might say that Max got a talent as a superhero to console him. Considering that it was only relying on his battle sense and putting his level of power aside. Right now, she thinks that Max might be able to turn a lie into reality as his talent is starting to shine.
