Master Tenshi

After leaving from the tavern, Max is thinking about what he should do now.

“Is the party behind the drug cartel is the association? If it is true, then doesn’t it mean that the association couldn’t be trusted?”

For things like this, it is clearly behind Max’s capabilities as a newcomer D-rank hero that just got his license this year to interfere. When he thinks about it, he suddenly remembers someone that might give him a clue. Although he just parted ways with Master Tenshi earlier in the morning, no one is more suitable to consult to other than him.

Riding his motorcycle again, Max headed towards the training camp. It didn’t take a long time before he arrived at the familiar tunnel and enters it. At the end of the tunnel, he once again meets with two guards securing the entrance.

“Oh, aren’t you the D-rank hero that just leaves from this place in the morning? Why are you here again?”

“It’s just that I leave something inside. Can I come in to pick it up?”

“Ah, what is it? I can go and pick it up for you.”

“Well, it would be faster if I’m the one searching for it. After all, I am not sure where I left it.”

“Oh, that makes sense. However, let me confirm it with Master Tenshi first.”

One of the guards then goes inside and comes out a few minutes later.

“Master Tenshi said it’s alright for him to go in.”

“Okay, I will leave my bike here again.”

Max then walked inside after parking his motorcycle. He has lived in the place for one month, and he won’t get lost inside as he already knows the way. In no time, he made it back to the cabin where Master Tenshi lives.

As the guard has notified about his arrival earlier, Master Tenshi is already waiting for him in front of the cabin.

“Max, did you leave something behind?”

Hearing Master Tenshi’s question, Max can only awkwardly scratch his cheek in embarrassment as it was all only a lie for him to get in.

“Master, I didn’t leave anything behind. However, there’s something that I would like to discuss with you. It is such a pain that this place doesn’t allow any form of communication. Because of that, I need to come and meet you directly.”

Max’s tone, in the beginning, is more on the playful side. However, the second part of his sentence is full of seriousness. Realizing that Max needs to talk with him about something important, Master Tenshi then beckons Max to enter the cabin with him.

“Alright, what do you want to talk about?”

“Master, you know that I am not coming back here because I am a bird that couldn’t fly out of his nest. It’s just there is something I would like to consult with you.”

“I know. Get straight to the point.”

“It’s like this. Today after going back from this place, I took a mission. From the information I got on the mission, I found that maybe someone from the association is involved with the drug cartel in the nearby city. What should I do?”

What Max is feeling right now is the feeling of an underling that realized that his superior might be embellishing the company’s money. He is confused about what action to take. Exposing the scandal might not even be the right thing to do since he will be implicated in many things. He might even become the black sheep if the superior has a deeper connection than him.

Hearing what Max said and how he explained about what happened earlier when he interrogated Juno, Master Tenshi let out a long sigh.

“Max, before I answer that, do you know why I am staying here in this place?”

When Master Tenshi asked about it, Max finally realized that it is indeed a bit weird. Master Tenshi can be said to be an S-rank hero that has contributed a lot to the well-being of the people. However, right now, he is living in this space that seemed to be built especially for him.

The space inside the tunnel hinders any electronic devices, and it can be said that Master Tenshi is living in seclusion. Master Tenshi should be helping out like Alexandra when there are only two S-rank heroes active, not secluding himself like this. The more Max thinks about it, the more confused he is.

“Master Tenshi, I don’t know.”

“Alright, do you know a story of a transmigrated hero?”

“Transmigrated hero?”

“Yes, a hero is summoned to another world in order to defeat the demon lord.”

“Oh, the story that is popular in the light novel.”

“Yes. Do you know what happened after the demon lord is defeated by the hero?”

“Aren’t they live peacefully and happily ever after?”

“It’s not that beautiful. In the end, the people that the hero saves started to fear the hero. it is because the hero might become the next demon lord since he possessed power even stronger than the demon lord itself.”

Hearing that, Max is surprised, but the answer is something logical. Although it is logical, it doesn’t mean that it is the correct solution to their situation.

“But, Master, since the hero saved humanity, doesn’t it mean that he is a good person? Why would the people fear him instead?”

“Who knows? Maybe they didn’t trust the hero enough? They doubt the hero’s motive and loyalty. After all, who likes sleeping with a knife hanging above their head?”

“Mmm. That makes sense. However, what does it have to do with you living in this place, Master?”

 “You see, you can consider me as that hero and the association as the people.”

“Eh?”

Max doesn’t seem to get it at first, but after he is repeating the words several times, he finally realized the crux.

“Master, does it mean that the association forces you to live in this place?”

“Well, something like that. You know what my power is, right?”

“Yes, it’s controlling hydrogen.”

“Mhm. You know, the people at the association are afraid that I might turn my power against them. After all, my power is quite destructive.”

“I can see that your water and fire controlling ability is off the charts, but does the association need to go this far?”

“If that’s the case, I doubt they would let Giovanni roaming free. After all, his speed stat is also at the S-rank. Also, Miss Alexandra is permitted to help out with the mission. Why are you being confined here, Master?”

“Do you know, what is the most offensive form a hydrogen can take?”

Max thinks for a bit, but he shakes his head in the end as he couldn’t think of anything.

“A nuclear bomb.”
