Chapter 7
Summer Vacation and Back to School
Stone gave Edison his space. They went a week without speaking. After that, they walked together, often holding hands on muggy summery nights when it seemed as if the sun would never set. They talked, not about school, not much about Lee. Edison did say Addison and Jenn had spent the afternoon together at the botanical gardens the day after July Fourth and were going to see a traveling production of Mamma Mia in Columbia before the European holiday.
July seemed to go by as quickly as the flash from one firework. Before Stone knew it, he was hugging Edison goodbye for five whole weeks. “I’m going to miss you.”
“I’m going to miss you, too, Stone.”
They were on the street across from Stone’s, a beautiful scenic route that took them and the dog
