She was let go… without a doubt.
She should have assumed that Damon wouldn't hold her back in the first place when she really decided to fade away from the life she was forcibly put into–no, was she really forced into it?
She does not want to know if she really is.
“...”
Lilith took on a life where she worked quietly as a waiter, photographer, videographer, and editor and was an on-call pianist on the side, different hustles everyday just so she could afford the villa she had rented on a whim, because she knows too well that she can’t rely on her parents now if they know that their kids were not in their arranged marriage anymore.
And it's even going for a week now, without anyone having to mind the other business.
It was quite a surprise that it lasted longer than what she intended it to be…
But... It should now be the norm for her now, right?
It should be.
This uncomfortable feeling of being lost in the wild will be gone in no time as time passes by.
“Hah.”
It was another day when she was playing the piano on the street, gaining some attention from passersby and even agencies that had taken a look at her face but immediately took their offer the moment they knew she was twenty-five years of age…well, maybe the other factor is realizing there was a tiny bump on her belly.
Her days were peaceful, with some occasional sickness drifting to her whole senses as she continued to kept the fetus alive inside her.
But it seemed peaceful days are not really meant to last forever, when the restaurant just close to where she is, was caught on fire, creating a slight vibration where she sat, her lips pursed as her fingers placed above the piano keys paused.
She knew that guy wouldn't just sit still.
She tilted her head to look at the side, where a billboard of Damon being featured as the youngest billionaire ever enthroned, fell on the ground. It was a pity that she couldn't hear how it fell with a loud bang when she was too far away from where it was placed.
Lilith started to pack up her things, as she folded her foldable piano, feeling hungry.
What would she eat today? Mango dipped in tomato? That would be yummy.
A scream cut off her thoughts when someone suddenly started screaming.
A van appeared nearby in front of her as she took a deep breath, then sighed, “Why is this guy so persistent? I have already told him I can handle myself,” she murmured, before being surrounded by people wearing all-black jackets and masks, armed with guns.
How can someone even carry guns around the street? Not even being scared that they would be arrested.
Guns. These people don’t really fear anything, do they?
Well, if this country had a law, of course people would fear it. But this country is without a law, mafias are running rampant in every corner of Sheville Russia. How can there be fear among these people?
One person, clothed heavily with armored guns, stood in front of her, his head slightly bowed as a familiar hoarse voice sounded amidst the noise that the fire and panic-stricken passerby made. “Madam.”
With those words uttered, his other free hand, not holding a gun, pointed towards the huge van that stopped just in front of her, with its door wide open. “Our boss wants to meet with you.”
Lilith smiled, “I don’t want to, Jasper.”
Gunshots sounded. A passerby, who was just running for his life, was suddenly shot in the head by one of the armed guards who surrounded her. “...”
Running for safety, then be killed just like that.
She has momentarily forgotten the rules for these kinds of people.
“For every rejection, an innocent person will be shot to threaten you." The man paused, then, as if wanting to explain himself further, he continued, “Our boss heavily added.”
Lilith laughed.
Feeling that she had heard the funniest thing said to her in this life.
“Did you just use someone else's safety, for my safety—no, someone that I do not know of—a passerby even,” she chuckled in serious mockness, her head vibrating in laughter, as her eyelashes rose to look straight at those eyes that widened to look back at her, ”...to threaten me?” she continued with a sneer, looking at the man who had shot a passerby then. “But since it seems your boss really does want to meet me now…" Lilith turned her back, clasping both of her hands and shrugging, making her way towards the huge van presented upfront.
“I will meet him then." Her words fleeted as all the armored guards lowered their heads, not moving an inch, until she fully entered the van.
Lilith stopped, seeing a completely different person inside—well, the same face but different vibes. She knew too well who it was. “Damien, why are you imitating Damon right now?" she commented in a natural tone, but with the corner of her lips curling up in mockery as she entered the van to sit down.
The atmosphere surrounding them instantly darkened after her words fell, with Damien's gaze boring into Lilith's body as if he wished he could bore a hole in her body just by glaring hard alone.
“I am not imitating that guy.”
But Lilith didn’t really mind the sudden change in the atmosphere, as she just shifted and found a more comfortable position to sit down in, then tilted her head to look at the person she had an affair with for a year. “That guy? It seems you two are still on bad terms then. That's good.”
“But Damien…" Her voice went off-key after pausing, chuckling. “Why are you so persistent in taking care of your brother's pregnant ex-wife?" tilting her head as she asked, Damien suddenly closed the distance between them.
Lilith stared at him quietly, her hand went to clutch the helm of her shirt where her belly resides.
She was vigilant and wary of any sudden attack, but Damien's complete opposite reaction to what she said made her momentarily stunned and speechless.
“You’re… pregnant? ”
A long moment of silence shrouded the two of them as they both stared at each other quietly.
Lilith distanced herself from Damien, leaning the side of her head to the windshield, choosing to break the silence herself. “Do I really need to repeat myself, Damien?” she asked back.
Another silence, before Damien raised a hand, and she instantly tensed her shoulders, growing wary, glaring, “What!?”
Damien coughed, awkwardness visibly laced in his tone. “Relax, you are pregnant.” fingers twitching with each other, he continued, “Ahm, sorry about earlier. Are you hungry?”
Lilith relaxed after Damien's words fell, closing her eyes, she slowly hummed, “I wasn’t mango with some tomato dipping, and cortillas and meat that should be rare cooked. There still should be blood on the steak. And I want some squeezed lemon drinks without sugar, a sour drink, Damien.” She listed all the food she wanted to eat first, before allowing herself to be fully consumed with darkness, falling asleep, still clutching her belly, though gently.
Damien stared at her sleeping face, speechless. No one would be able to just sleep when their partner's biggest enemy is at their side, right?
But Lilith was always one giving surprising reactions. It was what made him conflicted… and mulling.
Why is his twin the one who got to have her?
He sighed, loosening his tie. He looked at the rearview mirror, commanding, "Go."
