Elle
I remained frozen in my seat with a stiff smile plastered on my face as my brain struggled to comprehend what was happening. Everyone was staring at me, their piercing gazes burning into my soul.
I expected cheers and congratulations, but instead, I was met with a deafening silence. My body went numb and I couldn't breathe, think or move. It felt like everything was a dream and all I could do was watch.
His words kept on replaying themselves in my head like music on repeat. "I announce Olivia Smith as my fiance."
That should be me. He should be announcing my name. It should be Elle, not Olivia. This doesn't make any f*****g sense. What the hell is happening?
A single tear escaped my eyes, rolling down my cheeks like a traitor. I spent the entire night dreaming about how memorable this was going to be. Asim can't ruin my dream like this... no, he can't.
"Why am I crying? This had to be a mistake." I said to myself as I shook my head nervously. Alpha Asim was going to mention my name. He probably got distracted and mentioned Olivia's name because she was also sitting beside him. That must be it. I nodded frantically at the voice in my head.
I turned to Alpha Asim, my voice barely as a whisper, "Tell me this is a joke, Asim. Please, tell me it's not real. I'm hallucinating, right?"
My eyes pleaded with him, searching for a glimmer of hope, a hint of remorse, anything to indicate that this was either a mistake or just my hearing problem, but there was none. His expression remained stoic, completely unreadable.
"Please say something, the silence is killing me," I sniffed back the tears that were threatening to fall from my eyes.
I expected him to get mad but there was nothing. The silence was suffocating. I didn't mind him screaming, I just couldn't take this silent treatment.
"How could you do this to me?" My voice cracked as tears streamed down my face. My make-up was completely ruined but that was the last thing I cared about.
I jumped up from my seat as if reality was just drawn at me. My body was trembling so badly that I could barely stand on my feet.
"Olivia! Tell me this is a joke. You were in the room with me earlier. You saw how excited I was. You told me I deserve all the best things in the world. You said it yourself… you said you are happy for me… Liv, please tell me this is a joke," my voice cracked as I spoke.
My fingers were shaking so badly that I kept on tapping my lap to get a grip on myself.
"Elle, you are ruining the night for everyone. Why don't you just calm down till you are back to your senses? We can speak then," Olivia said with a smug face, making me scoff at her reaction.
"How could you betray me like this?" My voice broke and the fact that she wasn't even defending herself was all the answer that I needed.
My stomach clenched in disgust at the idea of Olivia getting married to Asim, and for a moment, I wanted to dig my hands into her skin.
"How can I betray you when we were never friends?" Olivia let out a dry laugh. "Stop being dramatic and shut the f**k up! I have had enough of listening to your whining all day," she hissed.
My head was spinning around so bad and I didn't know how I was still standing in one piece.
"How could you, Olivia?! After everything we shared, the promise, our dreams, secrets… I shared everything with you. I saw you as my sister. You were the closest thing I had to a family, how could you do this to me?!"
"Ugh! Can someone get rid of this thing already? You are so annoying," she rolled her eyes as she began to play with her nails.
This is not the Olivia I came here with. No, something is wrong somewhere.
Just then, the pack's murmur began to seep into my consciousness.
"See? I told you that the Alpha would never stoop so low." A woman chuckled as she watched what was happening.
"I knew something like this was bound to happen, I just wasn't expecting it to be this fast." Another one rolled her eyes, looking bored as if I was ruining their night.
"That is what she gets for getting her expectations high and thinking she could rise to power because she was his mate…"
They were speaking so loud for me to hear. They didn't give a f**k about me. No one cares about a lowly Omega that was dumped because they believed I was never qualified to be the Luna.
I should have known that they were a bunch of hypocrites when they suddenly began to treat me right after hearing that Alpha Asim was my mate.
My eyes darted through the room and none of them tried to hide their excitement. My face flushed out of shame and it felt like the room suddenly felt stuffed. I fanned myself as sweat began to form on my forehead.
"Asim, say something," I pleaded, still trying to deny what was glaring at me. I rushed over to his side, grasping his hands with my trembling own.
"Get those filthy hands off me!" He snapped.
Those hands were the same ones that used to caress my body, but today, he used them to shove me away as if I were some dirt that would stain his clothes, making me fall on the floor.
My knee made contact with the cold ground, forcing me to snap my eyes closed from the pain that erupted in my body.
I looked up to see Olivia recording me with a smug face, clearly enjoying my misery.
"You don't actually believe that I'd want to spend the rest of my life with a wretched Omega like you, do you? You are just a toy to me, a plaything that is always available whenever I am in need." Alpha Asim spoke with so much spite, breaking me into pieces.
I shook my head frantically as I wiped my tears away aggressively. Asim hates weak women. I can't embarrass him like this.
"I know you don't mean that. Today is meant to be our engagement party, what are you doing? People will believe you are serious if you keep this up," I gave him my brightest smile despite how my knee was killing me from the fall.
When the moon goddess showed me mercy and gave me Alpha Asim as my mate, I told myself that this was an opportunity to change my life for good. To change my history and make my dreams come true. I can't simply give up on them now, I can't…
"Asim, no, you love me. You said you would protect me. Today is supposed to be our big day. You can't do this to me…"
"Are you seriously stupid or just trying to play the victim? You are a nobody. I am the Alpha. I need power to improve my pack and you can only be a liability to me. Tell me, why should I pick you over Olivia? She is not only beautiful but classy. She is what I need, not some low life like you," he spat out.
"Asim…"
"Do you ever look at yourself in the mirror? You look so ugly!" He twitched his face in disgust. "Even if I wanted to ignore the fact that you are way out of my league, I can't imagine waking up to see your face every morning. I'm afraid I'd sleep one day and never wake up." He hissed.
Every word he said stabbed through my heart like a dagger. This was the same man who told me that he wanted me to be the most beautiful woman in the room today…
"But I am your mate! What are you talking about Asim, you love me!" I moved closer to him again, refusing to believe his words. "Do you remember what you said to me the last time? You said you would protect me. That is how much you love me, Asim!"
"Shut up, Elle, just shut up! Ain't you ashamed of yourself? I know you are just an omega that is desperate for love and power but how low are you willing to get? Your parents must be turning in their graves for raising such a failure." He hissed.
I have never seen Asim so angry before. He stood up from his seat, intimidating me with his height and I was forced to step back.
"Mate?" He scoffed. "Is that why you are feeling entitled?" He chuckled. "You were my mate until now Elle, so I'd advise you to get your trash out of here before I have the guard do that," he warned.
"What are you talking about, you can't do this to me," I wiped my tears away as I moved closer to him. "You can't throw me out… you know that I have nowhere to go," I cried.
"You can live in the gutter for all I care. I have had enough of your nonsense so get the f**k out of here," he warned sternly.
"I can't. I'm still your mate. I am your responsibility," I pointed and he clenched his fist, clearly annoyed by the reminder.
"I, Alpha Asim of the Golden pack, reject Elle Robbins on this day, in the presence of my people as my mate." He spat out.
