Untrue Affection

Something behind the engagement

William was dressing up when he heard a knock,,,he wore his face cap and when he was sure he was ready he opened the door.

"Hey" He cooed at her.

It was Valerie.

"Here for the dishes?" He asked and she nodded.

He allowed her in and she took the tray.

"You didn't eat" It wasn't a question tho, cause if it was one then looking at the untouched food she could tell the answer.

"Hmmm" Will hummed.

He tucked his hands in his pant pockets and stared keenly at her.

"You looked suprised,,, Well, I told you earlier, I needed to taste something new".

"Then you should have just told me to take the food while I was leaving,,, do you know my feet hurts walking up here" She frowned.

"You aren't supposed to be complaining, barbie. It's your damn job" He said.

"Barbie? Why is everyone in this house annoying" She muttered to only her hearing and made to leave, but stopped.

"You are dressed up, are you going out?" She asked.

"Why asking?" He replied her with a question.

"Nothing,,, I wanted to go make the pancake".

"Too late, am heading to school" He said.

"School? You aren't done with college?".

"Soon. How did you know am in college?".

"You look old to be a highschool student, so I just guessed" She replied.

William checked his wristwatch and gasped slightly. "f**k! I am late, Peter is gonna kill me" He muttered and rushed out, forgetting he didn't lock his door, and also Val was still in the room.

Valerie looked outside the room, seeing that no one was around she kept the tray on the table and locked the door.

Now she was in the room alone. She scanned it with her eyes, looking for anything valuable but didn't sight nor - Or maybe she just didn't think of it.

She dipped her hand in the pocket of her apron and then brought out the bud. She connected it and wore it.

"Hey guys" She spoke up.

"Boss, good morning. Do you have a problem? Or perhaps do you need something?" Leo's voice was heard.

"Where are the others?".

"Your dad called Sharon and sent her on an errand, she left with Arthur and smith".

"What could that be?".

"I don't know, Sharon didn't mention it to me, she was in a haste" Leo answered.

"Okay,,, Listen, I am alone in William's room, I don't know what to search for. Do you have an idea, like anything I should search for that would contribute to the mission" She asked.

Leo went quiet for a while, obviously thinking.

"Talk to me, Leo. Someone might come in soon" She urged.

"Check for maybe documents, receipts or anything that could help" He said.

Valerie walked to his drawer, she opened the first one and it was filled with lots of photos - Family photos.

She brought them out and started looking at them.

One photo caught her attention, it was a photo of Loretta and a boy, they looked happy in the photo.

She took out her phone and took a picture of it.

After looking at all the photos, she kept it back and opened the other drawer. She was about searching it when Leo's voice was heard.

"Stop it boss, don't do nothing in the room no more,,,we didn't think of it earlier but what if he has a CCTV in the room?".

Val's eyes widened when she realised what Leo said might be true.

"Jeez, Leo. Why didn't you tell me earlier,,,what am I gonna do?" She asked worriedly.

"Leave the room, boss. Just act normal when next you see him, if he asks you any suspicious question then leave the house, okay" He advised.

"f**k! I am screwed" She muttered and took the tray, then exited the room.

"Is there no way you can hack the CCTV, that's if there's one".

"No boss" Leo replied.

She got to the kitchen and only two maids were present there, she kept the tray and left.

DIAMOND HIGHSHOOL

It was lunch break and students could be seen walking to and fro in the cafeteria.

Loretta stepped in with two girls beside her - her closest friends.

"So where are we sitting today?" Arielle asked.

"Anywhere free from bad air, such as commoners" Chrissy replied.

"You mean those who got here by scholarship?" Loretta asked, staring at a particular table where two girls were eating.

"Of course" Chrissy said and rolled her eyes.

"Come on, don't be a bully... Look for a table, I will be back" Loretta told them and walked away from them, going to meet the girls she was staring at.

Getting there she pulled out a chair and sat down.

"Hi" She cooed.

"What do you want, sis in-law" Daphne asked with a hint of mockery sounding in her voice.

"Sis inlaw?" The other girl asked.

"Yes Jasmine, she's my sister in-law" Daphne replied. "Why are you quiet? Are you ashamed getting married to my brother?" She faced Loretta.

"Why would I be ashamed? Or is there anything embarrassing about Harry that I don't know about?" Loretta asked, also smirking.

"No,,,I just kept wondering why an eighteen years old girl is so desperate in getting married... If you are so proud of it then why don't you tell everyone, why keeping it a secret,,,huh?" Daphne stated.

Jasmine stared at Loretta with widened eyes.

Loretta on the other hand fisted her hands, she knew the whole thing was supposed to be kept a secret but now she couldn't keep it. She lost it and it was because of what Daphne said.

She stood up and walked to the middle of the cafeteria, then cleared her throat.

"Attention everyone!" She shouted, trying to get everyone's attention, which she got.

They stopped eating and focus their gazes on her.

"Since we are school mates, I thought it would be wrong not letting you know about my engagement... Well, I am getting engaged soon,,,the card isn't out yet but don't worry I will make sure to add some of you to my invitation list" She announced and they all became confused.

"What is she talking about?"

"She's getting engaged?"

"Isn't she too young?"

"She's probably lying"

"Who's the lucky guy"

Murmurings filled the whole place,,, she felt she needed to answer one of their questions.

"The lucky guy is Harry Donalds... For your information, Daphne will be my sister in-law soon,,,isn't it great" She smiled and stared at Daphne whom a smirk was playing on her lips.

She couldn't help but wonder the reason behind Daphne's smirk.

*Isn't she supposed to be angry cause I kinda defeated her?*

She couldn't bear the stares and murmurs no more, she then walked out of the cafeteria as fast as she could.

A girl could be spotted in the cafeteria looking so calm, but deep down she was boiling with anger.

"Loretta Davidson getting engaged to Harry Donald is something quite big. There's something to it" She muttered.

Sharon, Arthur and Smith were inside a car outside DIAMOND HIGHSCHOOL, they were parked at a corner and were observing the environment.

"It has been five minutes since they closed" Arthur said, checking the time for the umpteenth time.

The big gate of the school opened and cars started driving out.

"Spotted,,,that's Loretta Davison's car" Smith said, pointing at black car.

"You are right, that's the plate number. Move" Sharon ordered and Smith ignited the car engine.

He trailed after the car in a way it wouldn't be noticed.

It got to a point were he almost lost her but he didn't.

He stopped driving when Loretta'a car drove into a compound.

"That's her parent's house" Arthur informed.

"So big boss was wrong" Sharon muttered.

"We should head back then" Smith said and made to start the car but stopped when Sharon held his hands.

He turned and gave her a questioning look.

"Wait,,,see that person outside?" Sharon asked and they(Arthur and Smith) stared at the direction.

"Isn't that boss?" Arthur said.

"Yeah, it's Valerie" Smith also said.

Sharon opened the car and stepped out.

Valerie on the other threw the two bags she was holding into the refuse dump outside, she dusted her hands and turned to walk in but stopped when she heard her name being called by a familiar voice.

"Sharon?" She muttered and turned back.

"It's really you" Sharon said as she finally got to where Val was.

"What are you doing here? Don't you know it's risky? What if someone sees you" Val asked at once.

"Come with me" Sharon said and walked away.

Val stared around, seeing no one she went after Sharon.

Inside the car, she stared at them with furrowed brows.

"You mean dad told you to trail after Loretta wherever she goes to? Was it the errand Leo talked about?" She asked.

Sharon had told her about it.

"Yeah... Think about it Val, why would an eighteen years old girl be thinking of getting engaged? And it's to no one else but Harry Donald" Sharon replied.

"But people do get married at young age nowadays,,,and who the f**k is Harry Donald? Is he someone important?" She questioned further.

"Harry Donald is the son of James Donald, the CEO of Donald's enterprises. They deal on different stocks. It's like a big fish" Smith replied.

"Big boss is thinking that the two families are up to something... Reason for trailing Loretta was to see if she would drop by at anywhere to see anyone, maybe a lover,,,that way we'd be sure she was forced to agreeing to the engagement" Arthur explained.

Valerie didn't immediately say anything, she was processing all what they said. After some time, she frowned when she realised something "Dad said it's my mission, he told me to handle everything in exchange for mum's whereabouts, why is he helping me now?".

"I don't know, I mean I was also confused when he told me to trail Loretta" Sharon stated.

She sighed and said, "I gat to go". She opened the car door and walked out.
