CHAPTER 56Back in his own room again, Josyff clambered into bed quite undisturbed by the reservations about sleeping he had touched on to Esyal. Somewhere they had faded away. Suddenly very tired he fell asleep almost as soon as he turned out the light. When he woke he was wide awake. His memory of the previous night was sharp and clear but for some reason it did not trouble him. Nor did the prospect of telling the others. He was working out how and when he might begin the tale as he opened his bedroom door. Facing him, hand poised to knock, was Adroyan. Josyff started. It seemed to him that Adroyan’s black eyes were windows through which he could see the tormented sky that had over-topped the battlefield where he and Esyal had stood.
