I also sent the name Sam Wilson to my brother.
Soon, my brother found something suspicious by cross-referencing the two names.
There was no record of an Ethan Brown at all in the Johnson Group's personnel system.
Every month, the money deposited into the salary card Ethan gave me came from Sam Wilson's personal bank account.
Sam Wilson, the executive, is Ethan's real identity at the company.
The owner of Johnson Group is none other than Sophia Johnson's father, and Sam Wilson is the family's live-in son-in-law.
No wonder Ethan was always on business trips all these years.
All the things I could not figure out before suddenly made sense to me now.
Now I understand why Ethan would not agree no matter what when I wanted to enroll Chloe at this kindergarten back then.
This kindergarten is the best in the whole city.
I fought so hard to get a spot for Chloe, but Ethan Brown kept making excuses, complaining the tuition was too expensive one moment and the commute was too far the next.
In the end, he only reluctantly agreed when he couldn't say no to me anymore.
Just as I was sorting through these clues, I suddenly received a phone call from Chloe's homeroom teacher.
"Mrs. Brown, it's urgent! Chloe got into a fight with a classmate and got hurt. Please come to school quickly."
After hanging up, I ran all the way to the school as fast as my legs could carry me.
Chloe's clothes were covered in blood, and she was crying loudly with her face covered in her hands.
"What happened here?" I asked.
"Mrs. Brown, you should be worried about the kid your daughter hurt first."
It turned out Liam had mocked Chloe again, saying her family photo was fake, and told the whole class that Chloe had no dad.
He even punched and kicked Chloe right in front of everyone.
Liam scratched Chloe's face, but Chloe bit a large chunk out of Liam's ear. Liam had already been taken to the hospital.
I wiped Chloe's little face, my heart aching, and I could not hold back my tears.
"Who did this?! Whoever picked on my Liam is going to regret it!"
Sophia and Sam burst in, and they both froze in surprise when they saw it was me.
"You again? You couldn't seduce my husband, so you sent your daughter to bully my son, is that it?"
Chloe let go of my hand, ran over and hugged Sam's pant leg, and started crying.
"Daddy, you're finally here. Everyone laughs at me and says I don't have a daddy, but I do have a daddy."
"Watch your mouth, kid!"
Sophia shoved Chloe hard to the ground. Chloe only cried harder.
"Leave her alone!"
I rushed forward to shield Chloe.
I glared straight at Sam.
"Should I call you Sam Wilson, or Ethan Brown?"
"Here we go again. One fakes a claim to my husband, the other fakes a claim to a father. Both mother and daughter are equally trashy."
"Ethan Brown. I want you to tell me right now. Is Chloe your daughter? If you dare deny it, I swear you will regret it."
He squatted down and stared at Chloe with a look I had never seen before.
"Little girl, don't go around calling people daddy. Children who tell lies get eaten by the big bad wolf, you know."
Those words finally killed the last bit of hope in my suspended heart.
Taking advantage of their distraction, I sent the pre-composed text message I had drafted earlier.
"Put the cooperation with the Johnson Group on hold for now."
What Ethan did not know was that the Johnson Group was currently facing a massive financial crisis.
They had pinned all their hopes on landing a partnership with the famous photographer Raining.
What they didn't know was that I was Raining.
