Chapter 4

Emma

The sun was glaring directly in my direction as I walked down the street to the bus stand. I worked at a supermarket in the city. It was an hour away from home and I had to take a bus every day to work.

My friend, Sarah also worked there with me. We met in college and since then we’ve been inseparable. I entered into the bus and goose bumps appeared all over my body as the cold air inside the bus blew over me. I sat at my usual spot, fourth seat near the window. The bus was nearly empty apart from a few men and women clad in business attires.

I felt someone’s eyes prick holes in the back of my head and as I turned around to see who it was, there was no one there! The back seats of the bus were empty and cold. I huddled closer to the window and prayed for the ride to end soon. A few minutes later, the bus stopped and a man entered inside. The air inside the bus shifted as he walked into the bus. He was in an all black outfit. He had his head bend down and he was walking forward. The moment he lifted his head and swept his eyes around – his eyes, they were a striking golden color which caused a shiver to run through your body if looked at deeply.

His eyes clashed with mine and I sucked in a breath by their intensity. I felt like I was being sucked into a world of mystery. His eyes were like a beautiful tornado of chaos. He was devilishly breathtaking. I was so lost into his eyes that I didn’t notice him move and sit in the seat behind me. The entire ride I was a nervous wreck because of the man sitting behind me. I felt the hair on my neck rise whenever I felt his eyes on me. 

The bus stopped in front of my supermarket and I stood up from my seat with wobbly legs and rushed out of the bus. Something made me want to turn around and gaze at the mysterious man, I looked back and saw that the mysterious man was looking right at me from the bus window. A rush of emotions ran through my body and erupted into my stomach in the form of tingly butterflies. A frown appeared on my face as I watched the bus drive away.

I entered the supermarket after the encounter with that beautiful being of God and saw Sarah waiting for me by the sliding doors of the supermarket. I waved at her and then dragged her over to one of the aisle.

‘’Hey Sarah! I have to tell you something that happened on my way here to the supermarket.’’

The supermarket was slowly getting packed with people so I was careful to talk to Sarah in a low voice.

‘’Oh my God, did a werewolf come at you out of nowhere and propose? It better be something great out of an exotic romance novel please.’’

Sarah is such an overly dramatic person. It is hard to put up with her but I try. I rolled my eyes at her absurd assumptions.

‘’No, can you please for once stop dreaming about those obnoxious hairy beasts?’’ I couldn’t help but say that in an irritated tone.

‘’I met a stranger, Sarah. A stranger who had such captivating eyes but something felt strange and terrifying about him.’’ I couldn’t stop my mind from painting his picture in my head.

‘’Ummm…hello?’’ Sarah waved her hand in front of my face. ‘’Where did you get lost to? Are you fantasizing about that stranger who has captivating eyes as you said earlier?’’ Sarah said in a teasing tone and also wriggled her eyebrows for extra emphasis.

My cheeks grew warm, ‘’No, stop teasing me. I am not fantasizing about him.’’ I couldn’t help but frown, ‘’There is something off about him Sarah. I can’t seem to grasp what it is.’’

‘’Well, I hope you get to see him again and if he’s lucky he will get to talk to you. Now, come on let’s get to work bestie or else that grumpy manager of ours will butcher us.’’ Sarah shuddered at the manager’s name and walked away leaving me in a puddle of thoughts which did no good other than drown me deeper.
