Emma
Dark clouds had taken over the sky, making everything around look gloomy, just like my mood. I had scurried down the stairs from my bedroom and into the kitchen after a night filled with weird dreams. There was a permanent scowl on my face as I gulped down my juice. I was in no mood of catching the bus today so I walked at the side of the road to my supermarket. Mother had inquired me about my sour mood but I didn’t want to tell her about the dreams and cause her any worry. I kicked a rock that came in my way, it rolled away and hit the trashcan making a sound. I made an abrupt stop as the hair on my back stood up. I had the feeling of someone watching me like I did in the bus that day. Dread took over my form and I ran as hot tears pricked my eyes, threatening to roll down my cheeks. I gave a sigh of relief as I saw my supermarket come into view. I squeezed my eyes shut and stumbled inside the supermarket. The people shopping inside stopped their movements to look at me. A few of them seemed shocked at my state with my untamed hair, ragged breath, wide eyes and face drained of color. I attempted to smile and dashed away to the back of the supermarket where Sarah was standing.
Sarah’s eyes looked me up and down and a naughty grin spread onto her lips. ‘’Woah girl, where did you do the nasty at?’’
I narrowed my eyes at her with my hand on my hip, ‘’When will you grow up?’’ Sarah chewed on her gum noisily and flung her hair behind her shoulder and with her sassy voice she spoke, ‘’Never! You’ll have to accept all of this…’’ her index finger moved up and down her body. I looked up at the ceiling of the supermarket and sent a silent prayer to God for blessing me with such a best friend. Sarah laughed and hooked my arm with hers and dragged me with her to help an old lady who was struggling with a few items.
‘’Hello Maam, may we help you with this?’’ I asked politely with a soft smile on my face. The old lady was wearing a cute sky blue dress which was down to her knees. Her warm eyes sprung to us and she smiled so brightly it widened my smile. ‘’Yes, dear could you let me know which one is better for me to buy? The red one or the green one?’’ the old lady held two coffee mugs in her hands and she waggled them in our face. I took the mugs from her hand and turned to Sarah. She pointed at the green one and I told the lady that the green one would look better. The old lady nodded her head and her eyes looked around to find someone, ‘’Actually, my grandson is here somewhere. Perhaps, he must’ve ran off to look for something.’’ She then looked over my shoulder and her smile broadened. ‘’There he is, my grandson.’’ I looked over my shoulder and my breath hitched as I saw Fleg sprint towards us.
He came and stood next to the old lady. His eyes landed on me and he trailed his eyes down my body and then looked back at my face with blazing intensity. ‘’Fleg, these two beautiful girls where helping me out in choosing these mugs. Aren’t these mugs lovely?’’ Fleg forced his eyes away from my face and gazed at the mugs his grandma was holding, his eyes snapped back at me and he vocalized in a thick voice, ‘’Yes, very lovely.’’ My cheeks felt hot and I looked down at my shoes to avoid his burning gaze. I cleared my throat, took a deep breath, ‘’It was my pleasure helping you out. I must go now to help other customers.’’ I hurried away with Sarah hot on my heels.
We rounded the corner and Sarah burst out, ‘’Omg Emma, he is so dreamy. I will totally let him pop my cherry.’’ I gave Sarah a shove as I felt a rush of jealousy swim in my veins, causing me to feel angry. The tips of my fingers turned hot and I clenched them to control my emotions. ‘’Will you keep your mouth shut? He must have heard you lusting over him because of how loud you are.’’ I hissed at her. ‘’You always ruin all the fun. Why are you such an old soul?’’ Sarah rolled her eyes at me in annoyance. ‘’Just…get back to work.’’ That was all I could say. I had no idea why I felt this way. I was puzzled by these new set of feelings for a guy who I knew nothing about. The next few hours went by in helping other customers with their problems. By the time, my work hour was over my feet felt sore and I was in desperate need of a hot shower to soothe my muscles. I bid Sarah a goodbye and walked out of the supermarket. It had gotten dark and the weather had turned chilly. I pulled my jacket closer to my body and strolled away into the dead night. As I was walking a car drifted next to me and stopped, the window rolled down to reveal Fleg. My eyebrows furrowed as I saw him.
What was he doing here?
''What are you doing here?'' I couldn't stop myself from voicing out my thought.
A mysterious smile played on his lips at my question. ''Would you mind if I drop you back home? It is pretty dark and I won't want anything to happen to you.'' He winked at me. I looked around and contemplated over his offer. His smile vanished, ''I won't bite... he trailed off, unless you want me to'' and added with a naughty smirk. I opened the car door and sat inside. The leather seats felt super soft against my legs and I sank into the seat. I leaned my head back against the seat and closed my eyes.Tired. I was so very tired. I felt his eyes on me but I didn't dare open my eyes to peer at him. The silence in the car, and the comfortable leather seat lulled me into slumber.
