Chapter 8

1419 Words
Fleg 5 hours ago: I was sitting on the couch with one leg crossed over the other swirling the drink in my hand, lost in thoughts. My brain could not stop thinking about Master Mathew’s daughter. I clenched my palm around the glass and took a sip. Tom was sitting in front of me with a laptop placed on his lap, typing furiously with knitted eyebrows. His eyes roamed around the laptop in deep concentration. Jake had come back earlier a few hours ago from Hong Kong with the information he gathered from Master Mathew’s dear brother. When he delivered the news to us we were shocked! The girl’s name was Emma. She had no clue of her dark past and was adopted by a family after master died. That girl believed that they were her real parents. Oh, how very naïve! Tom apprised us that she lived here in this very city. I knew deep down that I have met her before and my assumption turned into reality when Tom mentioned that she worked at a supermarket. A smile made its way to my lips and her face flashed in my face. Those eyes swam in my brain and spread a fire through my body. I didn’t let it show on my face that I have met the girl whose fate was soon going to take a sharp turn which will jolt her entire being. This is going to be fun!  With that thought, I leaned back against the couch and sipped on my drink. When day turned into night, I descended from the stairs while buttoning up my white shirt and walked out of the house and headed straight to the forest. Even before I could reach the waterfall I knew she was waiting for me there. Once I got there, I saw here propped with against the rock with her arms nestling her head. I hid myself in the darkness that surrounded the forest and leaned against the tree with my arms crossed in front of my chest. I stayed in that position for a few minutes and watched her lift her head to stand and walk away. Her eyes looked sad. Before, she could take any more steps I revealed myself from the shadows. ------------------------------   Emma  I was back in the forest after a hectic day at the supermarket today. The sun had bid its goodbye and the inky sky had taken its place. A small part of my heart wanted, no, needed to see the rude-but-dangerously-handsome-man there at the waterfall. I walked in silence relishing in the peace.   I reached the waterfall and sat against the same rock that he had sat against with my legs pulled up to my knees. I let out a soft sigh and waited. Waited for him to appear out of thin air. The minutes dragged on and turned into hours and my mood turned gloomy. Disappointment spread through my body like hungry fire and I dropped my head onto my arms wrapped around my knees and drowned in my misery.   Stupid woman! Did you really think that he would come?   At last, my brain won the battle against my heart. I stood up, brushed off the dirt from my denim jeans and took a step forward. Right at that moment, I heard a soft chuckle that stopped me dead in my track. There he stood, his hand supporting his weight which was propped up against the branch of the tree. He had a lazy grin on his face. He had on a white shirt with black worn out jeans. It hurt me to look at such a beautiful face. I turned my gaze away from his electrifying eyes and ducked my head down. Silence was what followed us for a while. I heard him walk towards me. Each step made my heart beat a little faster than usual.   He stood so close, my shoulder brushed against him and I felt my body turn hot. He leaned in, his hot breath tickled my ear and softly whispered, "Were you waiting for me amore?" I let out a soft gasp at the endearment and my wide eyes trailed up to his eyes.   He raised his eyebrows waiting for a reply.   I tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear and composed myself. "No, you think very highly of yourself mister." I snapped and took a step back to create some distance between us. My brain turns mushy with him so close to me.   Why does he have such an effect on me?   He let out a mocked sigh and walked nearer to the edge of the cliff and looked down at the water. He turned to face me with smiling eyes, "You still haven't taken a dive into the water below it seems." His eyes shone with thrill.   I shook my head and uttered in a strong voice, "I don't have any plans to die so soon. It looks pretty terrifying down there." My body shuddered in fright.   He walked back to sit against the rock. He spread out his legs in front of him and crossed his arms around his chest. He looked tired. I wondered what he did which caused him to look so worn out. He closed his eyes and leaned his head back. I couldn't stop staring at his face. I cleared my throat to gain his attention.   "What's your name?" I uttered.   He opened his eyes and looked at me. His gaze penetrated through my soul. His eyes became guarded. They weren't smiling like before. "Fleg." His deep voice hit right at my heart causing it to flutter.   "Fleg." I repeated. He nodded his head towards me, gesturing me to tell him about my name. "Emma. Emma Silver." I muttered in a soft voice. Something flashed in his eyes. A look that said that he already knew my name. I frowned at that thought and dismissed it. I knew that he heard me because he gave a small smile that tugged at the sides of his lips.   "You're not much of a talker right?" I inquired with an eyebrow raised. He peered at me from the corner of his eye but didn't reply back. "So, what do you do, Fleg?" I just couldn't seem to shut my mouth. If I wasn't so terrified of falling off a clip, I would've jumped already. At least that would have stopped my mouth from moving. Fleg looked at me with dangerous serious eyes. "I kill people. If you have anyone on the list you want out of your life, contact me." He replied in a flat tone but he had a dark look on his face which led me to think if what he said was the truth.   I let out a strained laugh but deep down I hoped that wasn't the truth. "That's a very...interesting job." I trailed off not knowing what to reply to his blunt revelation.   "How's your job at the supermarket?" He suddenly asked. How did he know that? Upon seeing the look on my face he continued, "I saw you get down from the bus in front of the supermarket that day so I assumed that you worked there." Oh, that is how he knows! "Pretty boring at times but it's going well." I didn’t like working at that place but Sarah made it bearable for me to survive. Also, after father’s death I had to work to provide for me and my mother. My head turned upwards to the inky sky. When I looked down back again I saw Fleg’s eyes study me. His intense stare caused goose bumps to appear on my skin and I rubbed my arms to get rid of them. The air around us shifted as we stared into each other’s eyes and I felt my soul call out to his. Sometimes, strangers turn out to be the ones you have been looking for all your life. They are the missing puzzle that has yet to fit into your life and complete you. This man was that stranger. I smiled at that thought and averted my gaze as a blush crept up on my cheeks causing them to become warm. ______________________________________________________________________ Hey, my beautiful readers!
