**Chloe’s POV**
“What- What do you mean, Ethan?”
“Just promise me you won’t tell anyone about this!”
I’ve never seen Ethan so serious before, and it makes me realize how grave the situation is. I nod frantically, “I promise, Ethan.”
Hearing my promise, Ethan finally breathes a sigh of relief. “Good. But don’t worry too much, Chloe. As long as you stay by my side, I’ll make sure you’re safe.” Ethan says, raising his hand to stroke my hair.
As I look into his bright blue eyes, I can’t help but feel there’s an emotion in them I can’t quite decipher.
“But Ethan…”
“Yes?”
For some reason, my voice becomes hesitant, “Actually, I might be leaving here.”
Ethan looks down at me and chuckles softly, as if he’s heard something silly. “Oh, Chloe, you’re part of the Colins family. This is your home. Where else could you go?”
“It’s true, Ethan. I'll be out of here soon, even out of the Silver Moon pack.” Ethan’s attitude ignites a rebellious fire in me. “The Alpha of the Obsidian Pack promised me he’d take me out of here, so I’ll-”
“Don’t you ever say that again!” Ethan’s face suddenly darkens, and he interrupts me, his eyes filled with anger and disappointment. “Taking you out of here? Who gave him the right to do that?!”
“He-he…”
I’m startled by Ethan’s outburst and start to back away instinctively. But my retreat only angers him more. Ethan grabs my arm and pins me against the wall. In this moment, Ethan's nose is almost touching my face, and I can see the rage in his eyes clearly.
“Tell me, Chloe! Why would you abandon your family for a stranger?!”
“Because he says I’m his fated mate!” Under Ethan’s oppressive questioning, the words burst out of my mouth.
“What?!”
Ethan is stunned. A look of confusion and surprise appeared on his face at the same time, as if he’s witnessing something impossible. “That’s not possible! Alexandra must be lying!”
“Even though I find it hard to believe myself… why would he lie to me?” I feel puzzled, “I’m just an orphan. There’s nothing about me that he’d covet, and he doesn’t seem interested in me at all.”
“Trust me, Chloe.”
Ethan lowers his head, buttoning up his suit jacket. When he looks at me again, he’s the same elegant and handsome gentleman as always. “You’re worth far more than you think.”
Leaving behind this enigmatic words, Ethan strides out of the room.
“Wait, Ethan!” I hurry after him, but I only catch a glimpse of his back as he heads towards James’s study.
“Chloe!”
Someone calls out to me from behind. I turn around to see the old Bernard, who should be guarding the Dove Tower, slowly coming down the stairs.
“Strange, why are there so few guards at the tower lately?”
“Well, go ask Maggie about it.” I roll my eyes, instantly remembering the guards she mobilized last night to kidnap me.
“What did you say?” The old Bernard is not only lost the flexibility of his legs, but also his hearing.
“Nothing.” I raise my voice slightly, “Why are you here, Bernard?”
“Oh, a message came from the Capital. The seal on the envelope is from the royal family, it seems to be something very important. I couldn’t find any guards, so I had to come myself. By the way, where is our Alpha now?”
**Alexandra’s POV**
“Although our conversation at last night’s dinner wasn’t very pleasant, Alpha James, since the Moon Goddess has made your daughter Chloe my fated mate, I will honor my promise and make her my Luna. This will form an alliance between-”
Someone bursts into the study, interrupting me. I frown and see Ethan Colins stride into the room, his breath slightly labored, clearly having run all the way here.
“Father! You can’t let this man take Chloe! She’s part of our family!”
How interesting, he’s here because of Chloe.
I Iook carefully at the Colins men: Ethan seems to be anxious, his eyes pleading with his father. But James remains calm, his gaze filled with disapproval.
“Mind your manners, Ethan! We have a guest here!” James’s tone is severe.
“Oh, don’t mind me.”As Ethan and James look over at me, I relax on the sofa, offering them a casual smile. “Please, continue. I’m quite happy to stay here for a while; After all, your tea is excellent.” I say, taking a sip from the cup.
“If you think you can just waltz into someone else’s house, drink their tea, and then kidnap their family members when you leave, you’re gravely mistaken, Alexandra! This is not your territory and you shouldn't be here!”
Ethan Colins glares at me, his blue eyes blazing with anger. The aggressive aura he exudes even rouses my wolf, Antonio.
This man is challenging me, how audacious and ignorant!
Realizing this, I drop my playful demeanor and look at him coldly. “As far as I see, you are the only one who shouldn't be in this room, Ethan Colins. I said this is a conversation between Alphas. And you are nothing.”
“You-”
James slams his hand on the desk, the loud noise interrupting Ethan.
“Enough! Ethan! This conversation is none of your business.”
“How can it not be my business?” Ethan looks at his father, disbelief in his voice. “Chloe is my sister and she is-”
“You’d better remember she is your sister.” James stares into Ethan’s eyes, his tone warning. “Alpha Alexandra has every right to take Chloe. He has claimed her as his mate and promised to make her the Luna of the Obsidian Pack. While this differs from my initial plan, their marriage will still form an alliance between the Silver Moon Pack and the Obsidian Pack.”
Ethan’s eyes reveal defiance and anger, but he keep quiet in front of his father, which pleases me.
I clear my throat, deliberately provoking him. “You should listen to your father, little Colins, because he’s the one in charge here.”
Ethan glaring at me with cold eyes, silently warning me.
Antonio senses the threat, starting to growl lowly, which is somewhat surprising to me, because Antonio is rarely threatened by other wolves, he didn't even show up to the furious James Colins last night.
I narrow my eyes, scrutinizing Ethan Colins for the first time. This future Alpha will clearly be a formidable opponent, but he’ll never beat me.
Tension swirled between Ethan and me, James notices this and clears his throat to prevent things from spiraling out of control. “As the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack and Chloe Colins’s father, I agree to let Chloe Colins leave the Silver Moon Pack. She is of age, and by the rules of the werewolf society, she has the right to leave the pack with her mate.”
James’s declaration doesn’t break the silent confrontation between Ethan and me. If anything, Ethan’s hatred intensifies as James mentions me as Chloe’s mate.
This makes me wonder: Chloe Colins, what kind of magic of this girl possess that makes a successor willing to defy his father, and even challenge the authority of two Alphas?
“Now, I’ll have my servant bring Chloe here to explain the situation to her. Afterward, Alpha Alexandra, once your engagement is settled, you may take her away.”
Before I can respond, Ethan speaks, his eyes never leaving mine, “I won’t let this happen.”
“Ethan Colins!”
From James’s tone, it’s clear he’s even more furious than I am. He glares at his son, his cheeks trembling with rage. “You should lea-”
“Sorry, am I interrupting?”
Chloe’s timid voice breaks the tension in the room.
Finally, the main character of this argument appears. I walk towards the girl standing at the door with a smile, “Of course not, my dear girl.”
Under Ethan’s gaze, I deliberately take Chloe’s hand and bring it to my lips, planting a gentle kiss.
“We were just talking about you, dear.”
