** Chloe's POV**
When I open my eyes again, I find myself lying in a soft, large bed instead of the mattress in the attic. “Where am I?”
“This is the guest room at the Colins Manor.” An unfamiliar male voice answers my confusion.
Wait, a man?! Aware of the danger, I immediately jump out of bed, curl up, and hide behind the cabinet in the opposite direction of the voice.
“Who, who are you?! Why am I here?!”
“Sorry I didn't have time to introduce myself. My name is Alexandra Maxwell, from the Obsidian Pack. We met last night and I am your fated mate.”
Alexandra? This familiar name awakens my memory. Right! That cruel, ugly Alpha Alexandra! Maggie drugged me to take her place in marrying this terrible man! But...
“Wait, did you just say you are my fated mate?! Like how?”
“How?” Alexandra repeats my question, with a hint of incredulous amusement in his tone. “Are you asking me how a werewolf identifies his mate? Didn’t your mother teach you about that?”
Alexandra steps out from a corner of the room and comes to stand before me, but before he can say more, his usual roguish smile freezes on his face, replaced by a confused look.
“Strange, I feel nothing right now. But last night, I definitely smelled your scent, and Antonio told me you are my mate!”
“Antonio?”
“Antonio is my wolf.” Alexandra's face turns serious. He looks into my eyes and asks, “Where is your wolf, Chloe?”
Oh, right! Alexandra’s words remind me of another important thing. I’m eighteen, and I should have my wolf now!
My wish has finally come true! If Alexandra weren’t standing right in front of me, I would have jumped for joy!
Calm down, Chloe. I silently tell myself that the most important thing now is to summon my wolf, and establish a real connection with her.
Thinking this, I close my eyes and try to sense the energy within my body. But as time ticks by, I feel no response from my wolf spirit. What happened to my wolf?!
Sensing my unease, Alexandra tentatively asks, “Nothing?”
“It can’t be!”
I glare at Alexandra, refusing to accept his assumption. I take a deep breath and focus again, trying to retrieve the power that should be mine. But no matter how hard I try, I fail every time.
My wolf never responds to me, and I feel nothing.
Why? Why don’t I feel my wolf?
A dreadful thought rises in my mind. Tears well up in my eyes, and my heart fall to the bottom, filled with the fear of my future. If there is no Wolf, how can I leave the Colins Family? How can I even survive in this cruel world?
“OK, poor girl, it seems something strange is indeed happening with you.” Alexandra sits down on the sofa, back to his initial nonchalant attitude. “But the good news is, I trust my instincts, and I trust my wolf. If Antonio says you are my mate, then there’s no other possibility.”
“But I don’t feel my wolf, not even a little.” I sit helplessly on the floor, letting tears roll down my face.
“It doesn’t prove my feeling is wrong.” Alexandra insists. He grabs my wrist and pulls me up from the floor, almost rudely, compared to the tender embrace from last night. “Stop crying, I don’t have time to waste here.”
“Where are you taking me?!” As Alexandra drags me out of the room, I shout in protest, “Let go of me! You rude jerk!”
“Let me tell you something, Chloe Colins.” Alexandra suddenly stops, turning to look into my eyes. His signature wicked smile vanishes, replaced by a warning glare, reminding me of these terrifying rumors—that this man enjoys torturing women.
“Whether you are my mate or not, I am the Alpha of the Obsidian Pack. This means you cannot show me any disrespect in words or actions, or you will get yourself into huge trouble. Understand?!”
The dreadful aura surrounding Alexandra snaps me back to reality, and I tremble as I reply, “Un-understood.”
But Alexandra is not satisfied with my answer. He raises an eyebrow and asks, “And?”
“Alpha.”
“That’s my girl.” Alexandra flashes a triumphant smile, as if the person exuding a terrifying presence just now was a figment of my imagination.
This man is definitely a nightmare, I think to myself.
“So, Alpha Alexandra, where are we going now?”
“To see your father, James Colins.” Alexandra quickly answers my question. “We need to discuss getting you out of the Silver Moon Pack.”
“You mean, you are taking me away?! Away from the Colins family?!”
Alexandra quickly senses the surprise and excitement in my voice. He glances at me and asks, “It sounds like you really want to leave here? Why? Isn’t it good to be a Colins?”
“I…” I don’t want to reveal my stories to this man, so I roll my eyes and ask back, “So, you're saying that joining the Obsidian Pack is not as good as staying in the Colins family?”
“Hell no!” Alexandra snorts, his tone full of disdain for the Colins. “The Obsidian pack are true werewolves. We dare to face wars, unlike those who hide in manors and castles to avoid bloodshed. As a werewolf, if you lose your ferocity, you lose everything. Remember my words, you innocent Colins girl.”
“I am not a Colins,” I mutter under my breath.
“What did you just say?”
“Nothing. Did you just mention about war? Since when is there a war in the werewolf world? Why haven't I heard of it?"”
"As long as we are breathing, the war will not end. It's obvious." Alexandra glances at me with an impatient look, "And you, innocent Colins girl, of course you don't know that. You know nothing about this world and you don't even have your wolf."
“Ouch.” I glanced disapprovingly at this man, but curiosity keep me going, "But I'd like to know more, Alpha Alexandra, please tell... Oh, my.”
It’s not until Alexandra's back moves away from me that I notice we have already stepped into James Colins’ study. But now, it’s not just James here; almost the entire Colins family is present, including...
“Ethan?!” I exclaim, looking at the young man standing next to James with surprise. “You’re back!”
