chapter 12

268 Words
Bella was missing. Melissa had returned to the hotel room the evening of the party to find the door open. The cat couldn't be found anywhere. Melissa, knowing that Bella liked to sleep in odd places - small crevices, cupboards and that sort of thing - had searched the entire room. And come up with nothing. She was crying when Jacob walked by her room, with the door open. He peeked in on her. This was unusual behavior for this woman. What was going on? "Hey, everything alright, Melissa?" He said as he quietly entered her room and approached her. He probably sounded like he was talking to a child but that didn't matter. Jacob had feelings for Melissa. Feelings that - given the fact that he was just the leader of the retreat group and hadn't known her for long - were probably unjustified. "Bella is missing, Jacob. She's missing. I can't lose her." She sniffed. It was obvious Melissa had been crying recently. He wanted to comfort her. Hug her and maybe kiss her. But that could wait. The last thing Jacob wanted to do, was make her even more emotional than she already was. That would only complicate things. Who was he kidding? Things were already complicated for Melissa. He leaned in and kissed her. He didn't even wait for a reaction before pulling away from her. Melissa looked angry. She shoved Jacob. "How could you?" She yelled, furious. "I-I'm sorry." Jacob stuttered the apology. "I told you I was upset. If all you care about is a relationship, then leave!" Melissa shouted at him.
