Elizabeth had a lot of regrets but her biggest was not being her sister's ally. They were really close growing up but when she had to be moved to the warrior academy, their relationship became strained. Her now deceased husband also had a hand in why her and her sister had a failed relationship. Emelia was one of the most beautiful souls she ever had the pleasure of knowing, and her dead husband was jealous of the love they shared. He was much older and had pursued her relentlessly. She told him no at every turn. Elizabeth had always had a good sense of people. Whenever Julius was around, he made her skin crawl but she needed to marry well and he seemed to have affection for her. She finally allowed him to court her. It was whirlwind and he always did and said the right things. He was a prince among men, or so she thought. Once they were married, the ugly started to show. He became sexually aggressive and began taking s*x from her. The romance was gone. Her children were not conceived with love and she hated Julius for that.
Elizabeth was a hard woman but she was also smarter. Julius' treatment made her that way but it taught her a valuable lesson about who to trust. She actually felt a bit guilty about how she lashed out at Mackenzie. Mackenzie was the only thing left of her sister and memories fade. Elizabeth needed to repair the damage she had caused with her mother and father. She wanted to blame Julius but if she was being honest with herself, then she knew at any time she could have stopped his manipulation. Elizabeth had hurt her family through schemes and Julius' machinations and now the coven was deteriorating internally and rumbles of a civil war were becoming louder. The members were beginning to look at Cecelia and Giovanni as weak. Giovanni had several war victories under his belt and is a genius. Elizabeth knew how her father's brained worked and it aggravated Julius to no end that Giovanni was always two sometimes three steps ahead of his games. Giovanni was the one vampire that could destroy Julius' entire plan. Elizabet had to figure out a way for Julius to fail without knowing it was her so she continued to take his abuse and listen to his rantings and delusions of grandeur.
Elizabeth made her way to the training area because she had a lot of pint up aggression that she needed to work out. As she approached, she could hear voices so she put her headphones in specifically to shut any and everyone out. Her workouts were her peace and she really needed her mind clear so that she could make plans to get the coven back to top tier status. Elizabeth headed straight to the heavy bag and began to practice her kicks. She went through her routine starting with high kicks, then roundhouse, and then her low kicks. Her music was the right amount of Journey, Jeezy, and Paramore. She continued to go at the heavy bag for awhile and once that was finished, she hit the weights. As a warrior, it was imperative that she stayed in fighting shape.
Just as she was finishing up her sets on the bar bells, Mackenzie and Eli, walked out of the mental capabilities room looking flushed and happy. They hadn't seen her yet and Elizabeth had an idea of exactly what kind of training they had going on. She smiled to herself and decided she would do her utmost best to protect her niece even though it had to be from the shadows. She could not let anyone know what her husband was up to or he would kill her and any in the coven that chose to be against him. She silently watched them and saw that what they had was beautiful. Elizabeth wanted to see Mackenzie thrive even if that meant she had to be a b***h to her to protect her.
Mackenzie looked back as her and Eli were leaving the training room and saw her aunt. Mackenzie didn't think Elizabeth was as bad as she was making herself out to be. Elizabeth looked so much like her own mother and Mackenzie was curious and wanted to know more about her. There was a certain amount of animosity there but Mackenzie wanted to get around it to ask her aunt about her mother. She had so many questions and if that meant trying to break that barrier her aunt put up, then so be it. Mackenzie turned around and walked towards Elizabeth. Elizabeth stood up and as she did so it was liking watching a predator move. Elizabeth was all grace with an underlying stealth and as Mackenzie approached she felt like she was walking into danger. That is when she knew she wanted to learn hand to hand combat and she wanted her aunt to be the one to teach her. "Hey, Elizabeth, I want to apologize for the other day. I didn't know I could do that but I am really sorry," Mackenzie said. Elizabeth just looked at her so Mackenzie rambled, " well, it's not everyday that one discovers they are a vampire and I never knew who my family was or anything and I really just want to get to know you cause you are family." Elizabeth gave her a measured look before she spoke and said, "you don't get to choose family. You're stuck with me regardless. What do you want?" Mackenzie was a bit taken aback but she pushed forward and asked, " would you please teach me how to fight?"
Elizabeth did not know what to say. This was the last thing that she expected. She kept her cool and when she responded, she said, "Yes, I will teach you but please know that this is not for the weak. We will train hard and I will push you. You will bleed, you will cry, you will hurt. Is that what you want?" Mackenzie looked her in her eyes and said, "if it makes me stronger then yes, I want you to teach me everything you know."
Elizabeth knew then that Mackenzie was no ordinary vampire because her words held no fear. "I will teach you. Be here tomorrow at 7pm sharp and be on time," she said before putting her headphones back in and getting back to her workout. Mackenzie felt like she had accomplished something. It wasn't a major breakthrough but at least her aunt hadn't outright kicked her to the curb. Anticipation boiled in Mackenzie's blood and she knew she was ready but little did she know that Elizabeth was about to put her through her paces.
