“I’m sorry, sir… But it seems like what happened to your wife earlier is because of her cancer.”
I almost couldn’t believe my own ears. Gianna had cancer? Why she never told me about that?
Then again maybe she would if we were still together. I already left her a long time ago. I didn’t keep up with her life and I had no idea what she had gone through.
“I’m sorry? But you must be mistaken… She’s perfectly healthy.” I said to the doctor, still refusing to accept the bad news about my ex-wife’s condition.
The doctor shook his head at me. “I can’t be mistaken… She was at the last stage of leukemia.”
I swallowed a lump in my throat as I looked at my wife who was now lying weakly on the hospital bed like a skinny porcelain doll. A bead of tears fell down my cheek.
