LIORA’S POV I stumbled toward the small river I’d spotted earlier when we arrived at camp. Every step sent agony shooting up my leg, but I gritted my teeth and kept moving. The camp had finally quieted. Everyone was asleep or at least settled in their tents for the night. No one would see me out here, no one would know how badly I’d injured myself. I’d lied to the physician when he came to examine me. Told him it was just a minor twist, nothing serious. He’d believed me because I’d hidden the worst of the pain, smiled and assured him I’d be fine with rest. But I wasn’t fine. The ankle had gotten progressively worse throughout the evening. The joint was swollen to twice its normal size, discolored with angry purple and black bruising. And the angle was wrong, subtly but definitely wron
