Chapter 11Over the next few weeks, Adam did his best to stay out of Ian’s way. Ian made it easy for him by spending time on extra secret assignments from Katherine. Adam picked up from the others that it had to do with them getting near a target, one they’d been hunting for the last several years. When he ran into Ian these days, Adam couldn’t help noticing his disheveled, ill-kept appearance, which Adam found alarming. Ian had always struck him as someone who took pride in his looks, the way he carried himself. Now, he had no trouble stomping around with his hair mussed and bags under his eyes. His clothes wrinkled from having slept in them. If their paths crossed, Ian created an excuse to be elsewhere.
So, it surprised Adam when one day, Ian sought him out. Adam was in the gym, working
