Micah I tilted the crystal decanter back until every single drop spilled down my throat. It wasn’t enough. I found the alcohol Kassie stored in her room after she stormed off. I didn’t know why I went into her room after that clumsy, desperate attempt to get away from me, but I did. Being in her room, surrounded by her scent, her energy, did nothing to sate the beast in me—the beast that wanted to go after her and make her mine. I probably should’ve gone after her. Should’ve apologized, attempted to make amends for my stupidity. More importantly, I should’ve gone after her and made sure she stayed out of trouble. But I didn’t. If I had, I wasn’t sure what I would’ve done. Everything was already a fuc.king mess and I didn’t need to make it worse. Instead, I paced my room, drinking, and tore at my hair excessively—if I was human I probably would’ve been on my way to being bald because of how hard I tugged at my silver strands. What made matters worse, I knew she was bound to come in with a dramatic entrance, like a bat out of hell…a whirlwind set on a destructive path. Like Kassie. Fu.ck. I ran my hand through my hair for the hundredth time and, with a sigh, let my body fall backwards onto the bed. I was driving myself crazy with my thoughts, that kiss stuck on repeat in my mind. I was just praying that I hadn’t fuc.ked things up beyond repair. Kassie was my best friend, my family and I couldn’t lose her because of my impulsiveness. It was with that thought that I heard it. A thump followed by some giggles. That was the only sign I needed to know of Kassie’s arrival. And clearly, she was drunk. I really couldn’t be too mad about that, and I wasn’t. I was anticipating that exact thing. It was the norm for her. Besides, I wasn’t much better off to sit there and judge. No, that’s not what had me mad…it was the deep chuckle that followed after that had me jumping out of bed. I was instantly enraged, seeing red and thirsty for bloodshed. She brought home a fuc.king guy?! This was just like her. Someone would show her they cared for her and she would push back, sabotage any chance at them getting too close. But I was already too close and I wasn’t about to let her pull this sh.it with me. She would be lucky if I didn’t kill whatever asshole she brought home with her. It didn’t even matter that it wasn’t his fault. I was a fuc.king demon. We tend to kill just for sport. I stormed out of my room, bolting to hers in enough time to grab the door before it got shut. My fingers barely squeezed in the crack, and I’m sure if I was clear-headed I would’ve felt some sort of pain from my fingers being smashed between the door and the frame. But I didn’t give two sh.its, I wouldn’t be locked out. I pushed the door open, hard enough that the guy stumbled back from the door and into the wall behind him. Luckily for him, my vendetta was with Kassie and I had enough sense to not snap his neck for being her unlucky pick of the night. My eyes went straight to her, narrowing. She had a wild look in her eyes, her long waves falling in her face as she stood before me, unphased by my presence. I would put money on it that she knew I would march in here and raise hell. The woman lived for mayhem. My nostrils flared. “What the flying f***k, Kassandra?” “Uh-oh,” she said sarcastically, giggling as she said it. “It’s ‘Kassandra’ now. Guess I’m in trouble.” Unbelievable. She was so drunk that she was laughing at her own words, clutching at her stomach, and stumbling over herself. She was actually falling over drunk. I stepped forward and caught her before she fell and ate the floor. I pushed her down, forcing her to sit on the edge of the bed. I was mad, but not mad enough to let her hurt herself. It had been a long time since she was this drunk, and I only had myself to blame for it. I acted recklessly, and she was only returning the favor. She swatted my hand away. “Don’t touch me,” She pointed past me. “That’s supposed to be his job.” It dawned on me then. There was only one logical explanation for her bringing a guy home after that kiss…She wanted me, just as much as I wanted her. She was going to sabotage whatever this was because she was scared. I just needed to show her there was nothing to be scared of. I wouldn’t hurt her and I wasn’t going anywhere. No matter what. Maybe I was just a glutton for punishment because as quickly as my anger came, it dissipated. I smirked down at her. She couldn’t deny it forever. One look at her and I knew I was playing with fire. The chances that I would get burned were high when it came to Kassie, but I was never scared of fire. I would play with the flames and willingly accept the pain. I just needed to coax the truth out of her. “Who’s the guy, Kassandra?” I asked, knowing damn well what the answer to that was. She didn’t know. I bet she didn’t even ask his name. If she had, chances were she had already forgotten. And honestly, I didn’t think she had any intention of sleeping with the guy. This was just another game she was playing, testing my breaking point. “It’s none of your damn business,” she snapped. “No?” I raised a brow at her. “I think we both know that is a load of crap.” Even if I didn’t want her, we both knew it would still be my business. “Why the hell do you care?” “Just curious why you brought back some loser.” “I’m n—” “Don’t talk,” I cut the guy off, without even a glance in his direction. I didn’t care if I had offended him. “Tell me, Kassandra.” “Because I fuc.king can! I don’t owe you an explanation.” My jaw clenched. I could feel her anger and irritation rising, making my own creep back in. “Stop being a fuc.king child, Kassandra,” I barked. She stood up, sparks of anger in her eyes, fists clenched at her sides. I wanted to get her to admit her feelings, bait and trap her. It was a dangerous line I was toeing. You could never predict how she was going to react; she usually bit back. But it was too late. I fell victim to the heat of the argument and I wasn’t going to be the one backing down. “Child?! Of course, I’m the problem, right? So much easier to just blame me, instead of owning up to what you fuc.king did!” “What I did?! Don’t act like you didn’t kiss me back, Kassie! Maybe instead of just running away or arguing you could just actually act like a normal adult for once and talk it out,” I yelled back at her. “Just admit it!” I grabbed her by her arms and tugged her close to me. She may have been so much smaller than me, but her body fit against me perfectly, felt so right pressed against me. “Admit what, Micah? You want me to admit that I liked it? Well, news flash,M—” she cut off, sudden recognition sparkled in her eyes, a sinfully sexy smile played on her lips. “That’s what you want, isn’t it? You want me to have liked it.” I almost had her, too. So, so close to her saying it, I just know it. One more little push, and she would’ve cracked. But she just took this game by the balls—and me too. She moved even closer to me, her hand resting on my chest and moving lower. I could feel her sharp nails through my t-shirt, sending shivers of excitement down my spine. I wouldn’t mind her digging them into my flesh. “You want me to say that I want you, M? You first.” Her hand is shoved between our bodies, and when she grabs my d***k through my pants, my breath catches. The little minx was pure devil. She wanted to break me. If I said it first she won this sick game of ours. She pushes on her toes, pulling me by my neck with her other hand to lower me. Just as I think she’s about to kiss me, she pauses. Her lips barely brush mine and I can feel her breathy chuckle against me. She squeezes my d***k and it takes everything in my power to stay stoic. She was just trying to get a rise out of me at that point. “You don’t have to say a damn thing, Micah, your body tells me everything I need to know.” I stared into her eyes for what felt like minutes. The s****l energy between us was toxic and intoxicating. She may have known how I felt because of how my d***k responded in her hand, but I knew everything I needed to, too. I could feel just how turned on she was. She genuinely enjoyed this game of teasing. “So does yours, Kassandra, and I don’t even need to touch you to know exactly what I’m doing to you.” I licked my lips, my tongue just barely grazing her lips in the process. It was her turn to suck in a breath. Two could play this game, and I knew her resolve was so much weaker than mine. I reached out, trailing my hand from her thigh, up to where her bare belly was exposed, right above her pantline. My fingers moved gently, dipping just a little under the edge of her pants. “I bet with just one touch,” I murmured. “I could see just how much you really want me, K.” “I dare you to try,” she challenged. “Damn!” A voice broke our concentration from each other, our heads whipping to the side. “This s****l energy is intense.” I had completely forgotten about the douche in the room. I was back to wanting to kill the man for interrupting. Kassie was breaking, I felt it. If I had leaned forward just another centimeter, she might have let me take her lips with mine. May have just let me actually see how much she truly wanted me. I grabbed her hips possessively, refusing to end this. He would leave, and I would continue with our game of charades. My brows pull together as the guy makes a circular motion with his finger in our direction. What the f***k was he doing? “This about to be a three-way?” he asked. “Because I’m game.” Of course, Kassie would find the biggest brain-dead moron within a hundred-mile radius. “No,” I said, ready to tell him to get lost when Kassie piped up. “Yes,” she contradicted, and when I turned back to glare down at her, she smiled evilly. “What? Why not, Micah? Live a little.” She said that as if that wasn’t exactly what I was trying to do. I turned away from her, back to him. She was too damn distracting, her hand still teasingly on me. “Get the f***k out.” I was surprised at how calm my voice came out, but the dangerous undertone and my angry black eyes were enough that his own smirk vanished and he started scrambling backwards. Oh yeah, asshole, don’t like my scary demon eyes? The corner of my lip twitched upward slightly and I c****d my head to the side. “Unless you want to die.” It was enough for him to run the other way, out of the room, and a big part of me wanted to hunt him down and snap his little neck for touching what wasn’t his. Sometimes I hated having so much control over my demonic instincts. I broke away from Kassie, starting to follow after him, too. The pull to give in—to kill—was strong. I barely saw him clumsily go down the stairs, skipping steps from the doorway. He looked back at me, fear evident in his face. Not paying attention, he almost fell. Then he was out of sight and a few seconds later, I could hear the front door slam. A hand shot out, grabbing me by my arm to pull me further into the room, turning me around at the same time. Kassie pushed the door closed behind me, pushing me up against it roughly. A split second later, she was tugging my head down by the back of my neck and then her lips smashed against mine, hungrily. The kiss said it all. She enjoyed this fuc.king game, enjoyed my angry, possessive side. She was so fuc.king turned on and the feel of it was what drove me to pick her up by her thighs and wrap her legs around me. I had planned on just talking to her at first, clearing the air, but I was too far gone. So was she. We were both drunk, both on liquor and emotions. I couldn’t stop my legs from carrying us towards the bed or even when I tossed her down. She bit her lip, looking up at me. This girl would be the death of me someday. “You ready to admit it now?” she challenged, her voice husky. “No, let me show you instead,” I said before climbing over her, claiming her lips with mine. By the end of the night, she would be the one to admit it.
