Ethan I watched in quiet distress how the woman I love endured her mother's indifferent stares and her stepfather's snide comments. More than twice, I had balled my fists and clenched my teeth, mustering all my resolve to stop myself from beating the hell out of that vile man's face. And more than once, I felt Daisy's gentle hand on my knee and when I looked at her, she gave me a weak smile as if to say, "I'm okay. Let's just get through this meal." I smiled back and focused on her for the rest of the agonizing meal until we left and went home. We shared a quiet toast at midnight and kissed beside our tree until we laid happy and satisfied in each other's arms. I promised that the next morning will be entirely different. Our day at my childhood home will be as joyful as the occasion.
