The first thing I noticed when I woke up wasn't how sore I was but pain.
It was a sharp, hot sting at the base of my neck and the moment my eyes fluttered open and I felt it, I sat upright.
A dizzy spell hit me because of how fast I moved but I shook it off, reaching my fingers to touch my neck with a pounding heart.
I felt it immediately, two sharp punctures as though someone had drilled a hole in my neck and when I pulled my fingers away, they were damp and stained with blood.
Riddled with shock and disbelief, I craned my neck backwards and sure enough, there were drops of blood on the white sheet beneath me.
My memory came rushing back and the visceral images of everything that happened last night flooded my mind.
