Sonia and Michael approached Mrs Justina, who was still holding out her hand for spare change.
"Mummy, what are you doing here in the street begging for money?"Sonia asked
"Oh, my daughter, you're back already. Let's go home."Mrs Justina answered
But Sonia pressed on, needing answers. "But Mummy, I asked a question. Why are you begging?"
Mrs Justina waved her hand dismissively. "Ah, my daughter, I'm not begging. How will you say that?"
"But Mum, you are begging for money from people!"Sonia said
"No, no, no, that can't be true!"Mrs Justina answered
"It's true, ma. We sighted you from afar, begging money from people."Michael chimed in
"I can't try that.Let's go home, please!"Mrs Justina said
Sonia and Michael were confused.
Mrs Justina, Sonia, and Michael went home. They entered the compound, and saw Mrs Brenda seated outside her house on a bench.
"Good afternoon, Mummy Michael," Mrs Justina greeted her.
"Good afternoon," Mrs Brenda replied.
"Good afternoon, ma," Sonia greeted humbly.
"Good afternoon.Sonia. How was school today?" Mrs Brenda asked.
"School was fine, ma," Sonia answered.
"Okay," Mrs Brenda said.
"Sonia, later in the evening, I'll come, teach you your math assignment."Michael said and entered the house
Mrs Justina and Sonia entered to their apartment. Then Mrs Brenda stood up and entered her house, calling out to Michael
"Michael, Michael, Michael!"
"Yes, mum?" Michael answered.
"How many times did I call you?" Mrs Brenda asked.
"Three times, mummy," Michael replied.
"I want you to stop teaching Sonia her assignments," Mrs Brenda said.
"But why, mum?" Michael asked.
"Because you are not supposed to.And also you are not supposed to be friends with her. She isn't your age mate, sister, or relative. She is just a neighbor to you. So, you have to only greet her and nothing else," Mrs Brenda explained.
"But mum, Sonia is not just a neighbor to me. She is also my friend and birthmate."Michael protested
"Will you shut up? What concerns birthmate and friendship? She is only your neighbor. And not your friend. Didn't you see the way her mother has started begging on the street? She is not content with what she has. She has a supermarket but still goes out begging."Mrs Brenda yelled
"But mum.."Michael tried to speak, but his mother cut him off.
"Oh, so Michael, you have grown wings to talk back at me, your mother?"Mrs Brenda yelled
"No, mummy..."Michael replied
"But mum"Michael tried to speak again, but his mother cut him off once more
"Will you get out of my sight?"Mrs Brenda shouted
Michael walked to his room.
Sonia and her mother, Mrs Justina, sat on the couch in the sitting room. Sonia was gazing at her mother, her eyes fixed on her face.
"Sonia, what's it? Why are you staring at me?" Mrs Justina asked, but Sonia didn't respond. She kept on gazing at her mother.
"Sonia, what's it? For over twenty minutes, you have been sitting here staring at me," Mrs Justina said
"Mummy, I am just surprised to see you begging on the street," Sonia replied.
"Oh, Sonia darling, I can't do that, and you know it. And besides, why would I be begging when I have a supermarket and I'm living well?" Mrs Justina asked
"But mummy, I just saw you do that with my two eyes," Sonia replied
"Lol...Sonia, you are joking, right?" Mrs. Justina asked
"No, mum, I'm serious. Promise me you won't do that again," Sonia asked
"Hmmm...I won't, dear. But I didn't beg... okay I promise I won't do that," Mrs Justina answered, trying to reassure her daughter.
Sonia smiled and hugged her mother.
"Now go and change out of your uniform," Mrs Justina said.
"Yes, mum," Sonia answered. She stood up and walked out of the sitting room
Later that evening, Michael walked out of his room quietly. He stood in the parlor and saw his mother, sleeping on the couch. He tiptoed gently to the door and was about to open it when he heard his name.
"Michael!!" his mother yelled
