"No,just wait for me"Sonia said and walked up to the women Sonia approached the women and greeted them humbly, "Good afternoon, mas." "Good afternoon, Sonia," one of the women answered. "Ma, I heard you both discussing about my mother. Please, my mum is not a beggar and she will never be. She is contented with what she has," Sonia said. "But Sonia... we saw your mother begging on the street, which is not right," the other woman replied. "My mum can't beg, so you both have to talk about yourselves and not my mother," Sonia said and walked away. Sonia walked up to Michael. Michael noticed her countenance and cheered her up, "Sonia, please don't feel sad about what those women said, okay?" Sonia faked a smile and replied, "Alright." Deep inside, Sonia, she wasn't happy. She had told her mother to stop begging, but her mother had refused, which hurt her badly. Sonia and Michael got home, they entered the compound, and were surprised to see their mothers exchanging words. "Woooo... are you not ashamed of yourself? You have turned yourself into a beggar," Mrs Brenda said. "Mummy Michael... mind your words. I have taken a lot from you. Better mind what you say," Mrs Justina shouted. Sonia ran to her mother, "Mummy, mummy, let's go inside." Mrs Justina and Sonia entered into the sitting room, and Mrs Justina collapsed on the couch. "Mummy, you didn't keep your promise," Sonia said. "How? What do you mean?" Mrs. Justina asked. "Mum, yesterday you promised me not to beg again," Sonia replied. Sonia burst into tears, and her mother stood up and held her tight. "Sonia darling, I'm not begging. Ever since your dad died, I am the one struggling hard. I have never begged from anyone. Why will I do that now that I'm living comfortably? My angel, I can't do that," Mrs Justina assured. "Hmmm, Mum, I'm really not happy with the way people are talking about you," Sonia said "Dear, I promise I won't beg again, okay" Mrs Justina replied "But Mum, you've said that before, yet you still did it," Sonia blurted out "I'm serious this time, darling. I won't beg again," Mrs Justina assured Sonia let out a sigh of relief, feeling hopeful that her mother would finally stop begging. "Thank you, Mum. I love you," she said "I love you too, sweetie," Mrs Justina replied. Just then, they heard a knock at the door. Sonia got up to answer it, she opened the door and Michael entered the sitting room. He knelt down before Mrs Justina, who tried to stop him. "Michael, don't kneel please," Mrs Justina said Michael obeyed and stood up,he pleaded for forgiveness for his mother harsh words. "Please, ma, forgive my mother. She didn't mean to hurt you," he said Mrs Justina smiled "It's okay Michael.I'm not angry with your mother."she replied "Thank you ma"Michael said "You're welcome"Mrs Justina replied "Ma let me leave now"Michael said "Alright"Mrs Justina replied "Thank you once again ma"Michael said as he opened the door and left the house For days, Mrs Justina continued begging on the street, and people talked about her, which hurt Sonia. On a Saturday morning, Sonia lay on the bed, gazing at the ceiling, deep in thought. "Oh my God, what's really happening to my mother? She has really changed. She is always begging on the street. She will always promise to stop begging, but before I could know it, the following morning she will go out to the street and beg, and people will mock at her. This is something else. It's not really my mom I knew before. She can never beg. Oh God... I can't watch my mom continue begging. I need to do something," Sonia said to herself and stood up from the bed. To be continued
