The rain-soaked mist clung to the night as I approached my house, the hour late and heavy. True to his word, Jack stood across the street, kicking pebbles with restless impatience. His face was anything but pleased. Nate had offered to drive me home—quicker, he’d said—but I’d refused. The walk gave me time to let his scent, and the traces of our passion, fade from my skin. I hadn’t forgotten how sharp a wolf’s nose could be, least of all Jack’s. Nor had I missed the glint in Nate’s eye—the primal urge to parade me before Jack, staking his claim like any male wolf flush with conquest.
