Elodie shook the Snow Globe with the desperation of a woman holding a grenade, and for a heartbeat, nothing happened. The protesters screamed, the police horses stamped, and the sun beat down on the pavement of 57th Street. Then, a low hum, like the sound of a massive bass speaker turning on, vibrated through the soles of her boots. Inside the Sterling Tower lobby, the lights died. Not just a flicker. A total, plunging blackout. The massive digital screens displaying the Sterling stock ticker went black.
