Chapter 13
Jake stood next to Umberto Rubin in the corridor next the holding cell. As Jake listened, Umberto explained to Kyle Wurst about Judge Dominguez’s pretrial decision. Jake noted the area where they gathered. Elevators faced the holding cell. They stood in the middle between the controlled descent to the bottom of the courthouse and the heavy, reinforced steel bars. Heavy metal doors with peepholes for the bailiffs blocked both their east or west egress. All they have to do was knock, and the door would open back to the courtroom by the judge’s bailiff. Umberto, who stood a little over five feet, tripped over his words.
He’s excited. He never expected this.
