Chapter two

1575 Words
REVERSING TIME "WHY!" she screamed at the top of her voice. Life had never been easy for her. She had been scorned ever since her awakening as an Omega, and from that moment on, everything had fallen apart. The world had tilted on its axis, leaving her scrambling for footing in a life that never offered her a chance. “Lilian,” Reyna made one last desperate plea. Hope flickered for a moment as Lilian walked over and hugged her, her warmth briefly soothing Reyna’s shattered spirit. Reyna’s tears flowed freely. "I didn’t do it," she whispered, clinging to the one person she thought she could trust. Lilian’s fingers curled gently around her shoulders, her voice soft as she responded, "I know you didn’t." For a moment, Reyna’s heart swelled with relief, until she felt Lilian's body shake with barely contained laughter. Reyna stiffened. The realization struck her before Lilian’s next words even left her lips. "It’s just so satisfying to see you like this, crawling like the bug you are, begging for your life." Her tone dripped with sadistic pleasure. Reyna’s stomach twisted. Her sister’s face was no longer that of the kind sibling she remembered, it was one of pure malice. Betrayal. Lilian stepped back, smiling triumphantly as the sound around them returned. Her powers, the ones she had used to block the noise, faded away, allowing the executioner’s heavy footsteps to echo once more. Reyna’s breath hitched. This was it. The end. She looked up at the full moon one last time, tears blurring her vision. If the Moon Goddess truly existed… please, help me. The silver blade gleamed under the moonlight. She barely had time to take one last breath before, Darkness. Silence. A deafening silence. She woke up gasping. Her hands flew to her throat, feeling for a wound that wasn’t there. Panic flooded her system as she scrambled upright. She tore at the sheets tangled around her body, her breath coming in quick, sharp bursts. "Wait… Shouldn’t I be dead?" she whispered; her voice hoarse with disbelief as the last thing she remembered was being executed by her pack. "What is happening?" She muttered. Her wide eyes darted around the room. It was familiar, too familiar. The scent of fresh roses from the garden outside filled her nostrils, replacing the iron tang of blood she had grown accustomed to in her final moments. Slowly, she turned her head toward the mirror. The reflection that greeted her made her breath hitch. "No, this isn't real," she muttered, pressing a hand against the cool glass of her mirror. But her reflection was clear, young. Whole. Her fingers traced the unscarred skin of her chin. Impossible. No scars. No bruises. No chains. Her trembling fingers brushed over her jawline. The scar that had once marred her skin, the one she had gotten as a child, was gone. Heart pounding, she scrambled the room looking for something, till she found her phone sitting by her end table. She rushed to it and looked at the date. The date on the screen sent her reeling. She had gone back in time. A month before her awakening. Reyna’s legs gave out beneath her, and she slid to the floor, hands trembling as she clutched the device. "I'm back..." she muttered in disbelief. Her breath came in shaky gasps as realization washed over her in waves. Had the Moon Goddess truly granted her a second chance? She had to be sure. She had to see it with her own eyes. Reyna rushed to her door and flung it open. This time, she wouldn't be the same fool who trusted so easily. Taking the stairs three at a time, she skidded to a stop at the sight of her father, James, flipping through the morning paper with the television playing softly in the background. Her stomach clenched. He was alive. The last time she had seen him, his corpse had been left unburied after the pack’s m******e. Now, he sat before her, completely unaware of the fate that had once awaited him. He was one of the few who still treated her well after her awakening. He had become colder out of disappointment that his promising daughter was an Omega, but he never yelled or insulted her like her mother did. Tears welled in her eyes, but she quickly blinked them away. She couldn't afford to be weak. Not again. "Reyna, are you okay? Is something wrong?" James asked. He was confused as to what could make her behave in such a manner. Slowly, Reyna got a hold of herself. She looked around slowly as everything fit her memories of what her home would have looked like four years ago. Without a word, she turned on her heel and stalked into the kitchen. There, her mother was preparing breakfast while Lilian sat in her usual spot, flipping through an entertainment magazine. Reyna’s fingers curled into fists at the sight of her sister. The very sight of her family, their casual, normal expressions, filled her with disgust. Lilian noticed her first, a fake, sweet smile spreading across her lips. "Morning, sister. Sleep well?" Reyna's entire body went rigid. How had she never seen it before? The way Lilian's eyes gleamed with satisfaction, the subtle smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. She had been blind before. But now? Now, she knew the truth. Lilian had stolen everything from her, her life, her power, her dignity. Last time, she trusted them. Last time, she was weak. But not again. She looked to Lilian, her hands itching for payback. "Let's see how you like crawling." Lillian jokingly said. Reyna clenched her fists tighter. She took a step forward. Then another. And another. Before Lilian could react, Reyna’s fist collided with her face. Lillian felt herself go weightless as she flew across the room before she could register what had happened and why it happened. The entire kitchen went silent. Lilian crashed into the wall with a sickening thud, the impact shaking the shelves and sending utensils clattering to the floor. "Lilian!" Their mother shrieked, rushing to her fallen daughter. She looked shocked in as her eyes moved from Reyna to Lillian she was holding. James, hearing the commotion and the scream of his wife shocked him into motion. He hurried into the kitchen, his eyes widening at the sight of his youngest daughter lying unconscious amid the wreckage. "Reyna!" he barked. "What the hell is going on?!" "Reyna!" James shouted as he tried to put together what was going on. Reyna barely heard him. She stood frozen, staring at her clenched fist, her chest rising and falling in uneven breaths. "She is okay, she is fine," Martha said as she slowly dragged an unconscious Lillian from the wreckage. "Can someone please tell me what is going on here," James shouted in frustration. "Why don't you ask your daughter," Martha replied with the same tone while searching Reyna's face for an explanation. Martha found Reyna still standing there lost in thought. She looked at her husband for assistance but got a confused look. With a sigh, she let the cat out of the bag. "Reyna punched Lillian into the wall, don't worry Lillian is fine just unconscious. But what I would like to know is why." James walked up to Reyna, placing both his hands on her shoulders. "It's real, it's really real," Reyna said her voice barely a whisper. Reyna had to admit that she could not really believe this was reality. A normal person would pinch themselves to make sure, but why do that, when she could just punch Lillian? When she realized her father was holding her, she flinched and stepped back. Looking at the chaos, she knew would be hard to explain. “Why did you hit her?” James asked. “No reason,” Reyna said and made to leave. She was uncomfortable being here. After she had awakened, they had thrown her out. She had not been here in years. “No reason? Apologize!” James scolded. But Reyna turned and walked up stairs. “What happened, what is going on?” Lilian woke up and asked. “Baby slow down, I think you hit your head,” Martha said in a soothing voice. “But what happened, one minute I was reading a magazine then the next I’m covered in dust and laying on the floor with an aching jaw.” Lillian questioned in confusion. “Honey, did you argue with Reyna?” Martha asked. “No! why?” Lillian replied with shifty eyes “Then why did she hit you?” Martha asked. “Hit me?” Lilian asked and suddenly recalled what had happened. Reyna had actually hit her? Before they could process what was happening, someone knocked on the door before hurting into the house. “Ryan is back. He returned with the Whiteland pack. They have surrendered,” the person announced and the family got distracted. “Surrendered?” Lilian asked. Her reaction was odd, but no one noticed. Reyna who had stepped out of her room for a second paused when she heard this. She tightened her grip on the railing. This was the night Helen Stone returned. The past had returned. And this time, she was no longer the weak, naïve girl who had begged for mercy. She would take back everything they had stolen from her.
