K.A.E

The wind slapped our faces as we speed through town on our bikes. We are just two blocks from the General Hospital when a BMW is parked across the road to block our way. The driver and passengers aren’t visible as the windows are tinted black. Slowly the door at the back opens and Chloe walks out of the car while from the other side Megan and Isabella do the same. The three of them are in pink dresses and glasses. What on earth do they want now? “Hello there ladies. Is it the three musketeers or what?” Chloe asks. “You know it would be great if you don’t spoil my Sunday otherwise you’ll hate me till death,” Eve says and she kinda means it.” “You know, I’ve been wondering, are you called Brave or what?” Chloe asks. “She’s probably some bodyguard,” Isabella says. “Will you please get out of our way,” I’m trying to be polite. “Why should we? Actually, the two of you can go. We want the new miss over here.” “Well, we ain’t going anyway leaving her with you,” we remain in the same place as they are discussing something. “Ok then, we’ll do it our way. Either you go or we get you to spend the whole of tomorrow in detention,” Megan joins the conversation while the three advance towards us. Without thinking twice, we turn our bikes and speed off in the opposite direction. Though we know this is going to make us spend the whole of tomorrow in detention, right now all that matters to us is that we get to the General Hospital before the visiting hours have passed. We find a good parking spot then leave our bikes and rush in. Old Joe is sitting on his bed with the usual smile as he chats with the nurse. It seems as if nothing has happened to him at all. We sit next to his bed and give him some very unusual grins that make him laugh before he wears a serious face and asks, ”Who’s taking care of the place ladies?” “Well uncle it’s half past one on a Sunday which means we’ve done our duty and now is time for some freedom,” Alana gives him a perk on the cheek and a tight hug I feel so worried she’s gonna break his old bones. “What do you mean we? I thought it was just you,” the old man coughs then waits for an answer. “Well as you can see, I’ve made myself some friends,” Alana points at the two of us, “I’m sorry if you didn’t like it.” “It’s ok dear,” she looks at me, “Hello there K, how many chocolates did you have? And my dear Eve, how many thieves did you slap today?” “Alana is shocked by the two last statements, “You know them?” “Yes, my two favourite and most regular customers. K comes for chocolate while Eve comes to thrash some thieves… somehow her timing is always great,” he laughs and pats us on the shoulders. “Excuse me ladies, your time is up,” a nurse pops up behind us with a tray in her hands. “Are you going to inject him?” I freak out at the sight of all the needles in the tray, “Tell me you aren’t pushing those things into his skin, that’s like killing him.” “Please let us do what we are supposed to,” the nurse pushes me out of the way. “I told you there’s no way you’re…” “Kia, I think we should get going now,” Alana and Eve push me out of the room and we make our way across the lawn to our bikes. The sun implacable sun still shining down on us and reflecting off car windows straight into our eyes. I t feels as if we’re being fried alive. We’ve made it to the park that’s not really flooded with people and we find ourselves some ice-cream. Screams and shouts can be heard further off thereby we follow them deeper into the park. The screams are coming from the basketball court where teenagers are watching a match. I scan the faces available and all off them are not familiar… or maybe not. I think I just got a glimpse of Trey and if it is him then his friend is probably here which means trouble for us. The place is full of teenagers and this means dirt, noise and… no order. We push our way to the front where we can properly watch the match. Ace Hunter and Chris Payne seem to be clashing. No wonder there’s so much commotion. The to are Blackrock and Bluestone’s best and greatest basketball players as well as enemies I’ve heard. Oh no. Bad timing. A fight seems to be lighting up between the player’s and Trey is somehow trying to stop it. All the fans are jumping into a room to help their teams. I can feel some of their feet on my back as they jump into the already crowded place but then there’s a sudden halt. “Why did they stop?” Eve asks. “Probably because they saw your faces,” a guy laughs from behind us and now we have to control Eve before she kicks him out of the place. I really wish she was never made to watch wrestling as a kid because that led her to joining karate class and smashing people whenever they mess with her… which is supposedly valid. Right? A huge circle is forming as Ace and Chris face each other in the middle. Silence fills the place and cameras are flying everywhere. Everyone is anticipating a huge fight and… ouch. I feel someone’s hands push me into the crowd and I land in the middle of the room between the two huge guys who look like they are about to like each other… actually not between them, I’m in Ace’s arms and I don’t know how to react but I’m sure he does.  Without thinking twice he pushes me out of the way and turns away from his enemy but stops in his tracks when Chris shouts, “What’s wrong i***t? You afraid your chic’s gonna see you getting beaten up eh. What’s her name by the way? She looks new and hot.” You know when they see we’ve got our natural instincts… it’s not a lie. Don’t worry, it’s not the words that stop Ace, rather I just slapped Chris so hard the silence is making me awkward but then unknowingly the words storm out of my mouth, “First thing, I’m not his girlfriend,” Chris looks at me in the eyes as if he’s trying to find the source of this confidence and unplug it, ”secondly… don’t you dare call me hot, and not any other girl. Get it?” “This is not over you…” he raises his huge hand to return the slap but is stopped midway. “Didn’t your mom tell you never to hit a lady?” Ace hisses. Chris tries slapping me with the other hand but to no avail, “If you want a fight, why not pick it with someone your own size?” Trey interferes holding the hand. I’m pretty sure we look just like some actors in a movie. It feels so dramatic and my seventh sense is telling me this is gonna be on the trending list on YouTube. Is anyone also wondering why Ace stopped the slap? Ohh, not the time for jokes and questions. Trey and Ace seem to be in sync as they push the i***t down to the ground and turn to leave me in the middle of an audience going wild, or is it spectators? People start leaving the area and in about five minutes it was only Alana and Eve who stood in the same position with their jaws ajar. I’m walking towards them when two girly hands push me back. Isabella and Megan stand in front of me and behind me Chloe. What drama will they pull out of their sleeve now? “It would be wise if you kept yourself away from Trey and Ace,” Isabella says moving closer. “Are they your property or what?” I ask. “They aren’t our property but our possessions,” Megan replies while rolling her eyes. “Umm Megan.. that wasn’t the right time to roll your eyes,” I say. “What?” She barks in anger “Goodbye, we got school tomorrow,” Eve and Alana pull me out of the circle and we make our way out of the park. It was getting dark and people were vacating the place. At least there are three of us now.  K.A.E. “Mom, I’m gonna look for a job.” I shout to my mom. “Why?” “Well I just want to. I’m sure it will be fun,” I open my bedroom door and throw my staff onto my bed. As I walk to my bathroom the phone begins vibrating endlessly then a call.
