Chapter 7

Dean immediately got out of the car as he saw his best friend running towards them, his face pale and his hands shaking with fear. It only took him a moment to notice that there was blood on her shirt and trousers; it seemed like she'd just been in an accident. “I'm fine, I'M FINE” She exclaimed breathlessly when she reached the boys. “Someone followed us from my flat, it's alright, they can't hurt me,” She told them in between breaths. When she finally caught her breath again, she said: “I don' know if they followed us for real or not, but whatever happened, they're gone now.” Cas nodded. “I'll call Gabriel. I think he's still at your place.” He pulled out his phone and began to dial Gabriel's number while they waited for him. As soon as Gabe answered the phone, Castiel explained what had occurred to him. “s**t, sorry, kiddo, I didn't realize you were coming this far. Is everything okay?” “They were after a woman, they left her in her flat and left when we came back to look for her, she's fine,” Dean assured her before turning to Gabe. “Thanks man.” “No problem, Dean. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.” With that, Gabe hung up the phone and went to drive back home. After he put down the phone, Dean sighed in relief before turning to his girlfriend. “Are you sure you're all right?” Harry looked up into her concerned eyes. “Yeah, yeah, I'm okay. Just tired, that's all. We should get going, we need to get back to your place, Cas is probably there waiting. I'm assuming Gabriel has called him and let him know we won' be here till later?” Dean nodded and started the car before heading off. As he drove, he tried to distract himself by thinking about anything else. He thought about Sam and Dean's argument, wondering if he needed to tell anyone about Sam being a wizard or what he should do when he eventually learned about their son. In the end, the question was easy; tell them he doesn't want Sam to go out alone anymore. He wasn't going to lie, he would have done the same thing, if it hadn't been for the fact that they had each other, he wouldn't make the same decision twice. Still, knowing about Merlin, wizards, dragons, magic and witches… It would take some getting used to; especially because most people weren't quite as accepting of such things. He knew it might come back to bite him one day, he'd known for months now. But right now? For today? He was fine. * * * Later that afternoon “Where are those bloody clothes!” Dean growled when he spotted Hermione sitting on the couch eating ice cream while flipping through some magazines she brought home last month. She shrugged innocently at him. “Sorry Dean, I couldn't find mine anywhere.” She said, still smiling brightly at her brother. Dean huffed, trying to calm down. “It's not your fault, you're a girl. And I know we've talked about this, but I really wish you weren't wearing jeans everywhere, you're supposed to wear dresses.” He sat down next to her on the couch and grabbed a handful of cookiesthat were still hot from the oven. “What? No fair!” She complained. “You’re still wearing shorts.” “So, it’s not wrong to wear pants and shirts? Besides, they aren’t comfortable, and they leave little to imagination, I mean look at these boobs...” Dean rolled his eyes at the mention of Hermione’s new fashion statement. She wore a crop top that showed off all her curves perfectly. There was no doubt about it that she was attractive, it was kind of hard to miss. However, it also made her incredibly noticeable to anyone who even glanced her way; which wasn’t much thanks to their parents not caring about that sort of thing. Hermione turned over a page and suddenly jumped out of her seat. “Oh crap! What if those things were actually cursed?! Do you think I could die?” She began panicking. Dean grabbed her wrist so he wouldn’t lose his grip on her. He was about to explain how harmless her theory was before another thought crossed his mind. “How did you know they were cursed if they haven’t worked yet?” He asked curiously. “We’r I gonna have to watch myself every damn minute? I could lose my job? I could get sued? What if there was a curse on my car too! I’ve never been more embarrassed in my life. What if it’s been broken for years already and we’ve just now discovered it? Why didn’t we notice sooner? Why didn’t you notice sooner?! Oh god! I could get pregnant!” “Hermione.” Dean interrupted her. “But you’re older than me, and you’re married.” “That’s not the point and you know it.” “You’re so old anyway! What would you even need protection against? Your ex? I don’t remember seeing any evidence of cheating at all.” Her voice grew louder as she became more and more frustrated. “Hermione.” Dean repeated. “Focus. I’m not talking about the curse, I’m asking about you being naked.” “Oh, uh, well, I guess that’s true, but...” She trailed off and averted her gaze from him. Dean grinned triumphantly and shook his head. “Just so we’re clear, you’re not saying anything right now because you’re ashamed to admit how sexy you are to yourself or because you’re embarrassed to have your clothes off?” “Well, maybe a little bit of both? I mean, why should I be embarrassed? I am gorgeous after all. Anyway, I didn’t say anything until just now. Now come here!” She pulled him into an embrace and kissed him passionately. Once she stopped kissing him, Dean smiled and put a hand on her waist. “I love you Hermione.” She laughed at this and leaned back onto her hands to take in the sight of him. “I really do appreciate that. Thank you.” She paused then, looking away nervously. “I think you’re beautiful. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.” Hermione blushed brightly and gave him a quick kiss before pulling away and standing up. “I think you should take a shower first then we can eat. We’re having hamburgers and fries tonight, remember? And I don’t want to ruin your appetite because you couldn’t keep your eyes off my tits.” She winked suggestively and took the plate of food into the other room. She started setting up plates for them and placing food in the refrigerator. After everything was settled, she came to stand behind Dean and kissed his shoulder. “Now let’s go. I think we both need some fresh air.” The drive to their favorite restaurant in town was quiet, but peaceful enough. They were each lost in their own thoughts and didn’t speak until they had arrived. It was one of their favourite places to sit outside, especially in winter when it was freezing cold. It was a place where they could be alone, which always left them feeling very content. When Dean looked over at her, she’ d already taken off her jacket and was sitting on her usual stool. When he approached her, she looked up from the menu. “What do you wanna drink?” He asked. Hermione shrugged. “Whatever is on tap.” He placed his order and sat down opposite her before starting to open his mouth again. “So…” “Yeah?” She answered quickly. “Are we ready for kids?” He asked hesitantly. She chuckled. “We’re almost thirty Dean, we’re not even married anymore, it’s like five years ago and it’s too soon. Besides, I haven’t actually met the baby yet.” She replied. He shrugged. “Fair enough, but seriously Sammy’s going to be a dad one day and he already has that annoying little s**t of a kid so it seems right to me that we start planning now.” Sam sighed. “Dean I’m not exactly in the market to adopt a child at the moment, there’s only about 3 months left until I’ll be able to take care of the baby by myself anyway, and besides we don’t really need an infant right away.” She argued. She didn’t want to admit it aloud because she knew it would hurt him, but Dean was right; this whole thing was way more important than starting a family. They had to keep moving forward and she wasn’t sure if they could do that without a healthy amount of babies involved. Besides what would happen if the boys lost their mom when they were younger? How would they handle it all then? They were still adjusting to life on their own, with no real support system for their little brother Sam, they just needed some time before starting any form of long term commitment. Plus, there was always hope for them. They could always find another job and maybe even make it to college. But her mind refused to believe those hopes, instead she kept coming back to the thought of the bunker being abandoned for good. Would that really be the worst case scenario? No it wouldn’t, at least they’d have each other. And as much as she loved her brother and his son, she wanted them gone. They weren’t family, no matter how much they claimed otherwise. She couldn’t understand why they felt the need to stay together, especially after she’d told them how dangerous it could be. The only reason she’d agreed to take in Sam was for Dean and her unborn child, but that was only because she hadn’t been able to say no when he came barging into the bunker claiming Sam had come back from the dead. It seemed a little crazy but she was willing to let it slide. As far as she was concerned, Dean should go through hell first before he brought up something like that again, he was lucky he’d made it out with both feet unscathed. The sound of the door slamming closed startled her out of her thoughts. Her head snapped around to see who it might have been. Sam’s boyfriend Gabriel walked over to where she stood, his gaze never leaving her. Her heart leapt into her throat. What the hell did he think he was doing? Sure she liked Gabe, he was fun to spend time with, and although he occasionally annoyed her, she’d gotten used to him over the past month or two. Still, this didn’t bode well for either of them in terms of their relationship. Why was he acting like this towards her? Did he know about Dean? Had she accidentally given herself away in bed last night while she was drunk? Or maybe he’d caught her sleeping with someone else. That possibility sent chills down her spine. Could he possibly suspect that Dean was cheating on her? His eyes drifted towards the empty room behind him, “Hey, you guys doing anything tonight?” She blinked rapidly at him, trying to work out how much he knew. Should she tell him she was seeing someone? She didn’t want him to think she was a w***e or anything, she just wanted to keep her relationship with him strictly professional and platonic. “Um… no. Why?” Was that the best answer she could come up with? She mentally groaned. Well, this is gonna be awkward to explain. At least he didn’t look particularly surprised to hear that. Gabriel smirked. “Well… I was thinking we could catch a movie or something. If you want I can grab my coat and we can walk over together. It’ll be fun.” Sam raised an eyebrow, not entirely surprised. But his expression turned into one of confusion when Gabriel didn’t reply right away. Finally, Sam replied in a slightly irritated tone, “What are we doing here? We already spent all night at your place!” He looked around the empty bar. All the other patrons had gone home hours ago, but this was just the two of them, still sipping beer and trying to pretend they were enjoying the evening. “I know there’s nothing special happening here tonight, Gabe, and if you really wanted to spend time with me, why did you drag us out here?” Gabriel leaned forward, placing his chin on the countertop. The slight movement caused him to lean even closer until their noses almost touched. “I told you Sammy. It’s Christmas Eve. There was a certain person whose birthday I thought we should go visit. And it wasn’t because I missed you.
