Maddie’s POV:
I couldn’t believe what I just saw. So all this while he had been lying to me. He told me I was his first pet. But who was Theresa Rose?
I knew I couldn’t trust that bastard. Why did I ever? I placed the pen holder and the pens back on the table then I proceeded to leave his room. But talk about the devil, on my way out, I met him at the entrance.
‘What are you doing here?’, he asked sharply.
I didn’t reply and I looked away to avoid eye contact with me.
‘I asked you a question Maddie’, he said with a raised tone. It seemed like the missing ring really got to him.
‘Gosh. I was helping you look for your ring’, I said sullenly. ‘And I found it’, I said as I raised it up, his face immediately changed when he saw it. He grabbed it from me fast and examined it to make sure it really was it.
‘It really is it’, he said, he was obviously relieved. He noticed the excitement and immediately dismissed it, ‘You may go to your room’, he said as he left.
Wow, not even a thank you. I can’t believe I ever felt anything for that jerk. I went into my room and slammed the door.
About five minutes later a maid came to get me, food was ready. I went downstairs and was really shocked when I saw that the table was already full with food, but also with a blood sucking jerk at one end.
I went to sit at my side of the table and began eating immediately.
‘You can pick out your own clothes now’, Darren said.
‘ Uh?’, I exclaimed. Was he really serious?
‘For finding my ring. I’m giving you the right to choose your own clothes a reward’, he said. Not like I should be happy just because I now get to choose my own clothes, I mean every one should be able to choose out what they were, but I was really happy and I couldn’t hide it.
‘Thank you!’, I squealed without even thinking. I cleared my throat, ‘I meant thank you’. I noticed a smile had made it’s way to Darren’s face
And that was when I remembered again, that he had lied to me and here I was being happy because he gave me the right to pick out my clothes. Could the whole ring thing also be a lie. Could all this be a well planned scheme he was doing to make me like me. Trying to pull some Stockholm syndrome s**t on me. Probably what he had done to every other girl he had bought until he sucked them dry. Lied about not drinking human blood, trying to charm me by giving me privileges that anyone should have like it was a gift or something. I felt disgusted to my bones and knew I needed to escape from here even more.
‘What’s wrong Goofy?’, Darren finally asked. ‘You’ve stopped eating your food’, he said as he put a fork of food in his mouth.
I really wanted to ask if he had been lying to me all this while, but I decided not to. ‘Nothing’, I replied then continued eating.
He squinted his eyes a little then finally said, ‘Alright’, without a care in the world.
I rushed my food then excused myself from the table.
‘Remember the ball is tomorrow’, Darren said.
‘I remember’, I said as I stopped but not looking at him at all.
‘What is wrong Maddie?’, he asked again.
‘Nothing’, I said still looking away.
‘Whatever it is. Work it out before tomorrow, you need to be perfect for tomorrow’.
Wow that was the only thing he gave a s**t about. I left the dining without saying a word and went back upstairs.
I went into the room and undressed myself. I put on my pajamas, went to bed immediately but I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking about who Theresa Rose was and what probably happened to her.
After a while I finally slept off.
I was woken up by a maid the next day and almost immediately had to start preparing for the party.
After bathing, about three maids came in to make my hair, and do my make up. To be honest, I didn’t feel so good about everything that I had figured out but I couldn’t help but admire what the maids just did with my face, I looked gorgeous.
I looked at my self in the mirror. And continued admiring myself until he came.
‘You look nice’, he said as he stood by the door.
I looked back at him to give a fake smile, but as much as I hated his lying guts he still looked dashing.
He was all spruced up in his suit, he had gelled his hair and looked quite different but still good.
‘Thank you’, I finally replied rudely.
He looked at me a little bit concerned but all he said was, ‘Alright’ then he left the room.
I got dressed and the black gown was really pretty, I wore it with the silhouette I had picked out and then I went out of the room.
As I walked down the stairs, even though I couldn’t see myself, I knew it was graceful. Darren was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs as though I was his bride. I finally got down the stairs and then we both went outside where we met a limo that was waiting for us. That was the first time I had been outside in a long while.
The ride to the party venue was surprisingly short. We got out of the car and Darren linked his arm with mine. We walked through the red carpet.
‘Remember you have to be perfect’, he whispered to my ear as we went in.
We went in and the room was filled with vampires. I mean, a lot of vampires.
‘Don’t be scared, I’ll be by your side’, Darren assured me immediately he noticed I wasn’t comfortable.
Not up to five minutes had passed and Darren was nowhere to be seen.
I’ll be by your side he said but there I was, alone, counting vampires for about an hour. I had to smile at every other blood sucking leach that approached me.
None of them ever said a word when they did, all they did was offer an expression of either disgust, curiosity or approval. Some of them touched me, some played with my hair, and all I could do was nothing. One was even shocked to see my dress and said he wondered why any vampire would buy such a pretty dress for a human if he wasn’t smashing her. I was irritated to my bone.
I didn’t completely blame Darren though, it was his leach sister I was really angry at. It was she who dragged him off to go see there father and I hadn’t seen him since then.
I had seen and heard things that made my body irk but what I saw next enraged me. It was a vampire, he had about three pets tied down and they crawled behind him as he held on to their leashes.
I looked round to see if I could find Darren. I hated him and seeing all those people just made my hate grow. But why did he bring me to this ball if he knew all he was going to do was leave me here.
I let out a small confused sigh.
The vampire with girls crawling behind me spotted me. I looked behind me to check if it was really me he was looking at and I was. He started moving towards me. Oh no.
He got close to me and I tried looking away. ‘Hello little flower’, he said.
I didn’t want to reply at first but I didn’t want to know what could happen if I didn’t because he obviously looked violent.
‘Hello’, I finally replied back.
‘You look nice little flower’, he said again. He was really weird.
‘I’m not a little flower’, I said as I smiled at him.
‘You have nice hair little flower’, he said again. Was this guy deaf? Or was he just so annoying.
He placed his hands on my neck and began tracing it down my neck. I moved my body away.
‘What’s wrong little flower? Don’t you want to play with me little flower’, he said as he tried to trail my neck again.
‘I’m not interested’, I said as I tried to move away from him a bit.
‘Oh, I don’t think I made myself really clear’. He said as he grabbed my hand tightly. I tried to shake his off but he had a really tight grip.
‘Please let me go’, I squealed silently with tears in my eyes.
‘Not until I play with you’, he said again.
I closed my eyes and closed and what happened next was still a little blurry to me. Someone grabbed the other vampires hand and then I heard a crack. I looked up and it was Darren and he had broken the other guy’s hand who had joined the girls behind him on the ground, he held his wrist as he tried his best not to scream in pain.
‘Come on Maddie’, Darren said as he stretched his hands to me, not giving a damn in the world about the guy on the ground.
I grabbed his hand and followed him away from the scene where some other vampires had stopped to stare at the vampire on the ground.
When we were a little bit out of sight I finally snatched my hand away from his then hissed.
‘Everything alright?’, he asked.
I looked at him and hissed again.
‘If you have something to tell me Maddie. Just tell me’, he said to me.
I couldn’t take it anymore, I just couldn’t.
‘Who is Theresa Rose?’.
