Raziela “Sold!” The crowd roared with excitement as the auctioneer slammed his gavel down. But I could barely hear them as my ears rang. Our entire lives had just been bought. My child and I would never be free again. My legs felt numb as I stood on the stage. A wave of different emotions rushed through me all at once, and I had no idea how I was supposed to process it all. I wanted to laugh, to cry, scream and even rip my hair out, but I couldn't, not in the midst of these people who didn't care one bit about me.
