Chapter 1 - Fuming

Alpha King Damions POV

As an alpha it is up to them as the leader to keep their pack safe and cared for. As the king it is not only my responsibility to my pack but to the kingdom to ensure the Alphas are doing their job. That is why I am currently letting my wolf Kestrow run whilst we both calm down after learning that somehow some alphas, *soon to be ex* kestrow chimes into my thoughts, *yes kes soon to be ex alphas*, have been running some sort of trafficking ring in my territory.

*Alpha, I have replaced your sweats in the tree for when you’re ready to return. I have also told Evan to be ready to meet as I feel its ready for you to tour the packs in search of your “Luna Queen”* Pritchard, my Beta, air quotes that last part as he links me.

*he’s not all wrong there* kestrow practically whines at me. * I know kes I know* at 23 we have yet to find my mate and both myself and kes are starting to feel the impact of not finding her. Kes feels it more as the wolf than the man.

*Thanks man, I’ll be back soon. We need to deal with these Alphas and whoever else is involved with this ring as soon as. My subjects are suffering and at the hands of those who swore to protect them!* - I take a deep breath as I am starting to get pissed again - *actually on my way back, this needs to be sorted*

Walking into my office both Pritchard and Evan rise from their seats and bare their necks, this is a sign submission to most but for these two it is just a sign of respect. Evan is my Gamma and my second best friend. All 3 of us grew up together as our parents were the leadership prior to us. Only Pritchards parents are still with us as both my parents died from an illness that they contracted whilst abroad (something none of the kingdom was ready for and forced me to take on the alpha king role far sooner than any alpha had previously at age just 17) Evans parents died protecting the kingdom from a rogue attack shortly after my parents passing.

“Pritch, can you ask your parents to join us please, I will need them to step in for a while as I will need you both to come with me for this investigation.” I ask my Beta. I could summon them myself but I respect both my beta and the previous Beta couple enough that I will allow this for my Beta.

“Sure thing boss” he replies and his eyes fog out, a sure sign of mind linking. “They’re on their way and will be about 5 minutes," he states.

“Whilst we wait, I will tell you both of the vague plan I have then we will pad it out when everyone's here. So, Pritch had the idea that I go on my yearly search of the kingdom for my mate, this will be earlier than normal so it will throw the packs off and as such they won't have enough time to hide much. I do need to get back out there though, this is starting to weigh on both myself and kes” I added that at the end as everyone here is family to me and they need to know the state my wolf and I may be in on this trip.

Not a minute later and Beth and Alurian walk in the door. “You asked for us Alpha King” they both say and bare their necks.

“Yes, please take a seat. I have to ask you both of a huge favor. I have been informed of some highly disturbing news and as such I will be needing to take both Pritchard and Evan with me to conduct an investigation. So, I was hoping you both will be willing to take charge of the pack whilst we are gone.” I know they will be but I am asking as a form of respect. These two stepped up for both myself and Evan when our parents passed, Even though we were both 17 and nearly adults ourselves, we were both still young and finding our footing.

“Of course we will Damion, you needn't have asked, you know we will both do what's needed not only for you but for the pack and kingdom as a whole. Now what is this disturbing news and how big will this investigation be?” Alurian asks.

“Thank you both, I appreciate this. We may be gone for a while. This morning I received news from a Beta of one of the smaller packs in the north that Their Alpha has been acting not so Alphaly so to speak. He has been bullying lower ranking pack members and Omega’s. You all know my stance on Omega’s. They are a gift from the Goddess and need our protection. So, if that was the only thing I would be heading there anyway. But they also sent information of their Alpha and a few others, trading pack members with each other for their own perverted desires.” Growls came from all sides as wolf light lit up both Alurian and Beth’s eyes meaning Rex and Clover have both pushed forward.

“You have our Loyalty Alpha King and, as such, we will stay and work in your stead, but please show these Alpha’s that they don’t deserve their title. Your father and Grandfather worked hard to treat the rot in the ranks, and I am sure you will do them proud to hold up their legacy.” Rex spoke to me. I had to blink and take a breath before responding.

“Thank you, Rex, both myself and Kestrow will do my parents and yourself proud in dealing justice to these despicable creatures that call themselves Alpha’s. I will also do what I can to protect the whistleblowers and yes whistleblowers plural as the Beta was not the only one that came forward. I have several other reports which I will go through with both Pritch and Evan on our travels. I will also ask you to forward me any others that may arrive whilst we are away from the pack. Now as there are several Alpha’s involved I will have to visit every pack but there is one pack that will help us as they have proved their loyalty countless times and I trust them indefinitely as much as I trust everyone in this room and I am sure you are already aware of whom I speak of. I will meet with them first and then tour the rest of the kingdom.” I state to them all.

“I am guessing that your cover will be your mate's search so as to not give those Alpha’s a heads up?” Beth asks, spitting the word Alpha. Even though the wolf light had left both her and Alurian's eyes, Clover was still there in her voice and I don't blame them both for feeling this way as I am still seething from this information.

“Yes, you presume correctly Beth, I was planning on heading out in a couple of months as per usual, but with this information I cannot ignore these serious allegations and since it is affecting several packs in the kingdom I have to go and deal with this as soon as possible.” I closed the meeting off and as everyone left I sat there and just wondered how this situation had gotten so bad and under my own rule. *we will fix this and clean up the scum, publicly, so everyone knows what happens when they treat their pack members in such a way* Kes said to me and this settled my resolve in dealing with this sooner rather than later.
