A gunshot rang out, splitting the air like a blade. Lilet gasped, staggering backward as crimson bloomed across her arm.

I lunged toward her, but Beta Atom and Beta Cedric moved faster. Without hesitation, they grabbed her and rushed toward the backdoor, vanishing into the night.
Before I could turn, an earsplitting CRASH erupted behind me. Glass shattered. I gasped, stumbling back and falling out of my chair as a group of soldiers stormed in, weapons drawn.
And at the head of them—Teddy.
