62 Hitting the floor hurts. My fractured ribs, my bruised back, my busted cheekbone, everything I’d injured seems to strike the varnished floorboards at once. My breath rushes out of me, and a haze of pain fogs my brain, drowning out even the barrage of AK-74 fire. I do manage to keep my hand on the detonator. It takes a moment before the pain clears and I can pull the night vision goggles down over my eyes. The cabin interior snaps into view in shades of green. The tables and the Wheel of Pain loom over us, sliced with the quickly-fading faint green bullet trails. Thunderous gunfire punches through the front wall, leaving bright green dots.
