Lord Regan positioned himself in the center of the main hall, flanked by his two sons. Lady Talia was on one end and I was on the other. I tried to focus on regulating my breathing so I wouldn’t give away how anxious I was.
Sir Felix appeared leading several large men toward us. Sir Felix bowed and quickly stepped aside, revealing the barbarian king.
King Halvor was a giant, towering over every man in the room by at least a foot. His hair was closely shaved on the sides and longer on top, with the longer hair being pulled back in a braid down his neck. His hair was a light blond and he had striking blue eyes. His jaw was very strong and masculine - honestly he was very handsome, even with the scar across his left cheek. In a way his scar made him even more good looking.
His broad shoulders were covered with a fur cloak. But his tunic was tight enough that you could see his muscles. He looked at everyone and when he got to me he stopped and stared right into my eyes. I felt like he was staring into my soul and I could barely look away. I noticed his jaw clench and I tore my gaze away from him and looked down at the floor.
Lord Regan broke the silence. “King Halvor. Welcome to my estate. I trust you had a good journey here.”
I peeked up at King Halvor, who was still staring at me and I quickly looked away again.
“Which one is to be my bride?” King Halvor asked, completely ignoring any pleasantries.
“Ah yes, let’s cut to the chase. Lady Sylvia will marry you” Lord Regan said as he gestured to me.
I stepped forward slightly and curtsied, still looking at the ground. Suddenly a pair of large boots were in my field of vision and a rough hand cupped my chin forcing me to look up. I came face to face with King Halvor’s piercing blue eyes once more.
“What was your name?” He asked in a low voice.
“Sylvia” I practically whispered.
“Sylvia” he repeated huskily. He walked around me as Lord Regan and his children stepped back. “Hmmm, a little skinny. But at least you’re not the ugly one.”
I quickly glanced over to Lady Talia and realized that she hadn’t heard him. Thank goodness. I didn’t need any trouble while I was here at House Regan. I turned my gaze back to the floor.
“She will do” King Halvor announced.
“Excellent!” Lord Regan responded. “And how would you like to have the wedding tomorrow?”
“Good. We need to get home as soon as possible” King Halvor responded.
Lord Regan clapped his hands and stated that the wedding would take place at noon tomorrow. Servants appeared out of nowhere to show the King and his knights to their rooms. I started to turn to go back up the servant’s stairs to my room.
“Where are you going?” A loud voice rang out behind me. I turned quickly to see King Halvor right behind me.
“Oh, I was just going to my room.”
“I will have two guards posted outside your room. It’s customary the night before the wedding.”
