THE KISS

~HARVEY POV~ As I stepped out of the car, Rio greeted me with a nod. "Sir, your mother is waiting for you inside." I raised an eyebrow, wondering what this was about. The cool night air enveloped me as I emerged from the vehicle. As I stood there, Jenkins emerged from the shadows. "Welcome home, Sir," he said, his voice low and dignified. He reached for my suitcase, and I handed it over to him. "Thank you, Jenkins," I said, feeling a sense of unease. What was going on? I followed Jenkins towards the house, my heart beating slightly faster with every step. The lights from the living room spilled out onto the lawn, casting an eerie glow over the scene. As I entered the living room, I saw met mum on the couch, her eyes fixed on me with a mixture of disappointment and concern. My dad stood by the bar, a scowl etched on his face. Lusia sat beside him, a scowl on her face that seemed to mirror my dad's. "Where have you been, Harvey?" my mum asked, her voice firm but controlled. Her eyes seemed to bore into mine, as if searching for any sign of weakness. I shrugged, trying to downplay the evening's events. "Just out with some friends." "I know you were out with that lowlife secretary of yours," Lusia spat. Her voice was like a snake's hiss, full of malice and resentment. "Harvey, what's going on with you and this secretary?" my mum asked, her voice firm but concerned. "We've warned you before about being careful with your relationships." "You're a member of this family, Harvey," my dad added. "Our business reputation is at stake. We can't afford any scandals." As I stood there, lost in thought, I knew that I had to find a way to be with Anne. I couldn't keep pretending that our relationship was just professional. I had to take a chance, no matter the consequences. I thought about the way she smiled at me, the way her eyes sparkled with amusement, and the way her hair fell in soft waves down her back. I thought about the way she touched my arm, the way her hand felt on mine, and the way her presence made me feel alive. I made a decision then and there. Tomorrow, I would tell Anne how I felt. I would take her aside, look her in the eye, and confess my love. "Harvey..... hope u can hear everything your dad said?" my mum queried bringing me back from my thoughts "Yes, and marrying Sophie would be a great way to secure our family future " Lusia chimed in, "She's from a respectable family and she would make a great partner for you" she added. My mum's expression turned stern. "Harvey, we're serious. You need to be careful about who you're seen with. This secretary... what's her name?" I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "It's... not serious, Mum. Just a casual thing." My dad's face darkened. "See that it stays that way, Harvey. We can't afford any more scandals." I felt a surge of frustration, but I knew better than to argue with my parents. Especially when it came to the family business. "I understand," I said finally, my voice neutral. My mum's expression softened slightly. "Good. We just want what's best for you, Harvey." Lusia snorted. "Yeah, right. What's best for you is marrying Sophie and settling down." I shot her a look, but said nothing. My dad stood up, signaling the end of the conversation. "We'll discuss this further in the morning, Harvey. For now, go to bed." I nodded, relieved to be dismissed. I turned and walked out of the living room, feeling like I was escaping a prison. As I made my way upstairs, I couldn't help but feel frustrated. My parents just didn't get it. They wanted me to marry some girl I didn't love, just to secure our family's business reputation. I reached my bedroom and closed the door behind me, feeling a sense of relief. ••••••••••••••••••••×××××ו•••••••••••••••••••• As I stepped out of the car and onto the sidewalk, the crisp morning air hit me like a slap in the face. I took a deep breath, feeling the cool air fill my lungs, and nodded to Rio, who was standing beside me. "Thanks for the ride." Rio nodded back and turned to leave, disappearing into the morning crowd. I watched him go for a moment, then turned towards the office building, my heart racing with anticipation. Today was the day I would confess my feelings to Anne. As I walked into the office, I was immediately enveloped in the familiar hum of activity. The sound of keyboards clacking, phones ringing, and muted conversations filled the air, creating a sense of urgency and importance. I made my way through the crowded room, nodding to familiar faces and exchanging brief greetings. But my mind wasn't on the office or its inhabitants. It was on Anne, my beautiful secretary. I knew she would come to greet me as soon as she found out I was in. And when she did, I would take the opportunity to tell her how I felt. I walked into my office, closing the door behind me, and took a moment to collect my thoughts. My heart was racing, and my palms were sweating. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. It didn't work. I paced back and forth across the room, my mind racing with thoughts of Anne. What would she say when I told her how I felt? Would she feel the same way? Or would she reject me, telling me that I was just her boss, and that she didn't feel the same way? The uncertainty was killing me. Just as I was starting to think that I couldn't take it anymore, there was a knock at the door. "Come in," I called out, my heart racing with anticipation. The door opened, and Anne walked in, a bright smile on her face. "Good morning, Harvey," she said, her voice cheerful. "I saw you come in, and I thought I'd come and say hello." I smiled back at her, trying to play it cool. But inside, I was a nervous wreck. This was it. The moment of truth. As she was about to leave, I suddenly felt a pang of panic. This was it. This was my chance to tell her how I felt. If I didn't do it now, I might never get the courage to do it again. "Anne, wait," I said, my voice a little louder than I intended. She turned back to me, a questioning look on her face. "Yes, Harvey?" I took a deep breath and stood up, my heart racing with anticipation. "I need to talk to you about something," I said, trying to sound calm. Anne's expression changed from curious to concerned. "Is everything okay?" she asked, taking a step closer to me. I nodded, trying to reassure her. "Yes, everything's fine. It's just...I wanted to talk to you about us." Anne's eyes narrowed slightly, and she took another step closer to me. "What about us?" she asked, her voice a little softer now. I took another deep breath, my heart pounding in my chest. "Anne, from the moment I met you, I knew there was something special about you. Your smile, your laugh, the way you light up the room...it all captivated me. And the more I got to know you, the more I realized that I couldn't imagine my life without you." Anne's eyes widened in surprise, and she took a step back, her hand flying to her mouth. "Harvey, I...I had no idea," she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper. I took a step closer to her, my heart racing with excitement. "I know it may seem sudden, but I couldn't keep my feelings hidden anymore. I had to tell you, Anne. I had to take the chance." Anne's eyes sparkled and she looked up at me, her face a picture of surprise and confusion. "Harvey, I...I don't know what to say," she whispered, her voice trembling. I took another step closer to her, my heart pounding in my chest. "You don't have to say anything, Anne. Just listen to your heart. Do you feel it too? Do you feel the connection between us?" Anne's eyes locked onto mine, and I could see the confusion and surprise slowly giving way to something else...something more. "Harvey, I...I have to admit, I've noticed the way you look at me. And I've felt...things. When we're together, I feel like I can be myself. Like I don't have to hide anything." My heart skipped a beat as I heard her words. She felt it too. The connection between us was real. "...I've tried to ignore it, to tell myself it's just my imagination," Anne continued, her voice still soft. "But the truth is, Harvey...I've grown to care for you. Deeply." I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. In a good way. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "Anne," I whispered, taking a step closer to her. "I feel the same way. I've been wanting to tell you for so long." Anne's eyes met mine, and I could see the vulnerability there. She was scared, but she was also hopeful. Without saying another word, I reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair behind Anne's ear. My fingers grazed her skin, and I felt a spark of electricity run through my body. Anne's eyes fluttered closed, and she leaned into my touch. I could feel her warm breath on my skin, and it sent shivers down my spine. I leaned in closer, my lips inches from Anne's. I could feel the tension between us building, and I knew that this was it. This was the moment. Slowly, I pressed my lips to Anne's, feeling a rush of excitement and passion. The kiss was soft and gentle at first, but it quickly deepened into something more intense. Anne's arms wrapped around my neck, pulling me closer as we kissed. I could feel her heart pounding against my chest, and I knew that she was feeling the same thing I was. The world around us melted away, and all that was left was the two of us, lost in the moment. It was like time had stood still, and all that mattered was the kiss. As we finally broke apart for air, I looked into Anne's eyes and saw the same emotions reflected back at me. We both knew that this was just the beginning of something special.
