"New Year's Eve was just around the corner, and the excitement was palpable. On December 31st, Cwenga burst into my room at 7 am, his eyes sparkling with mischief. 'Let's surprise Mom and Dad with breakfast!' he whispered. We crept into the kitchen, trying not to wake them. The aroma of bacon and eggs filled the air as we worked our magic.
Just as we finished setting the table, Dad suddenly appeared, rubbing his eyes. 'What's that amazing smell? What's going on?' he asked, his curiosity piqued. Cwenga giggled and said, 'Just wait, Papa, you'll see!' I chimed in, 'Mom and Dad, wake up! Come see what we've prepared!'
Mom and Dad exchanged surprised glances, and Mom asked, 'What's the occasion?' Cwenga's face lit up. 'I just wanted to make Mom and Dad happy on the last day of the year.' We sat down together, and the warmth of the moment filled my heart.
After breakfast, everyone got ready for the day. I took a quick bath and decided to take a walk alone, clearing my head. As I strolled through the park, I bumped into Sibusiso, hand in hand with his new girlfriend. My heart skipped a beat. I couldn't believe he had moved on so quickly. He didn't even glance my way. I felt a pang of sadness and nostalgia, wondering what could have been.
I continued my walk, lost in thought. The park was filled with people enjoying the sunshine and the festive atmosphere. I couldn't help but feel a little left behind, still holding onto memories of Sibusiso and me. But as I walked, the fresh air and the sound of laughter around me began to lift my spirits. Maybe this new year would bring new beginnings and happiness."
I was having a dull day when my phone rang. It was Akhanya, my dear friend. Her voice lit up my day. "Hey, friend! I've got good news. I'm back from holiday," she said, sounding excited.
I couldn't believe it. "Really? I'm so happy to hear that! But there's a lot I need to tell you. This festive season was crazy for me," I replied, eager to share my stories.
Akhanya chuckled. "Tell me everything! Aza wants to know too." Aza, her cousin, was chatting in the background.
I hesitated. "I don't want to talk about it over the phone. I'll see you when you get here." We hung up, and I couldn't wait to catch up.
I went home late in the afternoon, as the sun was setting. My mom asked, "Where have you been, Langa?"
"I was at the park, Ma. I'm tired. I'll eat supper tomorrow," I said, heading straight to bed.
A few days passed, and school was about to reopen. I was already feeling drained. But then, I heard a knock on the door. It was Akhanya and Aza! They walked in, and I jumped up, surprised. "Wow, what a wonderful surprise! I've missed you guys so much!"
Aza smiled. "We've missed you too!"
Akhanya suggested, "Let's get some ice cream! I'm starving!"
We laughed and headed out to enjoy our favorite treats. As we walked, Akhanya asked, "So, what happened during the holidays? You seemed mysterious on the phone."
I took a deep breath. "Well, let me tell you..."
And with that, our adventure began. We spent the afternoon catching up, sharing stories, and making new memories together. The school reopening could wait; our friendship was more important.
