Chapter 004: Meeting Zhao Yun

950 Words
The morning sunlight filtered through the gaps between the leaves, casting dappled patterns on the ground. Li Feng and Wang Hao walked along a winding path, having traversed this unfamiliar land for days in search of a way back to the modern world, yet their efforts remained fruitless. "Li Feng, do you really think we can go back?" Wang Hao asked in a low voice, his eyes filled with exhaustion. Li Feng was silent for a moment before shaking his head. "I don't know, but we must keep looking. No matter what, we can't give up." Wang Hao nodded, a flicker of determination in his eyes. "You're right. We can't give up." Just then, the sound of galloping horses reached their ears, accompanied by the crisp clashing of metal. Li Feng and Wang Hao quickly hid in the bushes beside the road, holding their breath as they observed their surroundings. Before long, a cavalry unit appeared in their line of sight. Leading them was a young general clad in silver armor, wielding a long spear, his gaze sharp as an eagle's. Behind him, dozens of soldiers followed, each displaying a solemn expression and an imposing presence. "That’s... Zhao Yun?" Li Feng's heart trembled, a glimmer of astonishment flashing in his eyes. He had seen depictions of Zhao Yun in history books, and the resemblance between the historical portrait and the man before him was uncanny. "Zhao Yun? You mean the famous general of the Three Kingdoms?" Wang Hao whispered, his voice laced with doubt. Li Feng nodded and murmured, "Yes, it's him. If we can establish a connection with him, we might find a way out." Wang Hao furrowed his brows, concern flickering in his gaze. "But how do we approach him? They don’t look like people to be trifled with." Li Feng pondered for a moment before saying, "We need to draw his attention, but in a way that doesn’t make us seem hostile." At that moment, Zhao Yun’s sharp eyes swept toward their hiding spot, a trace of vigilance flashing across his face. He raised his hand, signaling his troops to halt, their gazes scanning the surroundings warily. "Who’s there? Come out!" Zhao Yun's voice was cold and commanding, carrying an undeniable authority. Taking a deep breath, Li Feng stood up, raising his hands to show he meant no harm. "General, we bear no ill intentions. We are merely passing through." Zhao Yun’s gaze settled on Li Feng, a hint of suspicion in his eyes. "Who are you? Why are you sneaking around here?" Li Feng stepped forward respectfully. "General, we are travelers from a distant land who lost our way and mistakenly wandered into this place. We have no hostile intentions." Zhao Yun frowned slightly, his sharp gaze sweeping over Li Feng and Wang Hao. After a brief pause, he asked, "Do you have any proof of your identity?" Li Feng’s heart tightened. He knew they had no way to prove their origins, but he had to find a way to earn Zhao Yun’s trust. Taking another deep breath, he said, "General, we have no proof, but we are willing to serve under you to demonstrate our sincerity." Zhao Yun remained silent for a moment before nodding. "Very well, follow me back to the camp. If you prove your worth, I shall consider employing you." Exchanging glances, Li Feng and Wang Hao saw a glimmer of hope in each other’s eyes. They knew this was a rare opportunity. Upon reaching the military camp, Zhao Yun arranged for them to stay temporarily but assigned guards to monitor them discreetly. Li Feng understood that Zhao Yun still harbored doubts, but he wasn’t in a hurry. He knew that trust could only be earned through action. A few days later, chaos erupted outside the camp. Emerging from his tent, Li Feng saw a large enemy force approaching, their numbers vast and their momentum overwhelming. "Enemy attack! Prepare for battle!" Zhao Yun’s voice resounded across the camp as the cavalry swiftly mobilized to face the enemy. A glint of determination flashed in Li Feng’s eyes. He knew this was his chance to prove himself. Rushing to Zhao Yun, he said respectfully, "General, I have a plan that might repel the enemy." Zhao Yun frowned slightly, curiosity flickering in his eyes. "What strategy do you propose?" Li Feng spoke in a low voice, "The enemy has superior numbers, making direct confrontation risky. Instead of facing them head-on, we can set an ambush, lure them in, and annihilate them in one strike." Zhao Yun pondered for a moment before nodding. "Very well, we’ll follow your plan." Li Feng quickly directed the soldiers to set up ambushes around the camp while personally leading a small cavalry unit to bait the enemy. The enemy, falling for the ruse, was drawn into the trap. At that moment, Zhao Yun led the main force to encircle them, launching a devastating assault that crushed the enemy ranks. After the battle, Zhao Yun approached Li Feng, his eyes carrying a trace of admiration. "Your strategy was indeed effective. It seems I underestimated you." Li Feng offered a humble smile and replied respectfully, "General, you give me too much credit. I merely did what I could." Zhao Yun nodded, then declared, "From today onward, you shall serve as my advisor. I hope you will continue to provide counsel." Joy surged within Li Feng’s heart. He had finally earned Zhao Yun’s trust. Bowing respectfully, he said, "Thank you for your trust, General. I will do my utmost to assist you." Standing beside them, Wang Hao watched with a relieved smile. He knew that Li Feng’s plan was gradually coming to fruition.
