The throne of the Malhotra Group finally belonged to its rightful owner. Seraphina sat in the high-backed leather chair, staring at the panoramic view of the city she had conquered. But the victory felt hollow. Her heart, once filled with the fire of revenge, was now a vast, cold wasteland.
"You look like a Queen who hates her kingdom," Julian’s voice broke the silence. He was leaning against the doorframe, a glass of amber liquid in his hand.
"I don't hate it," Seraphina replied, not turning around. "I just realized that once the monsters are gone, the silence is the loudest thing in the room."
Julian walked over and placed a hand on her shoulder. His touch was warm, a sharp contrast to the icy air of the office. "The monsters are never truly gone, Seraphina. They just change faces. Adrian is behind bars, but his creditors and the dark allies he made are starting to stir. They want the empire back."
"Let them come," she hissed, her eyes flashing with a familiar dangerous spark. "I didn't survive the ocean to be frightened by businessmen in suits."
Julian leaned down, his face inches from hers. "I know you're strong. But even a Queen needs a King... or at least a General. My contract with you was for revenge. That contract is over. So, why am I still here?"
Seraphina finally looked at him. For the first time, her cold mask flickered. Julian had been her shadow, her teacher, and her savior. Without him, the path ahead looked lonely.
"Because you're the only one who knows who is hidden behind this face," she whispered.
Before Julian could respond, the intercom buzzed. It was her new assistant, her voice trembling. "Miss Lance... there is a woman here to see you. She says she is Adrian’s mother, and she has brought the 'true' will of your father."
Seraphina’s grip on the armrest tightened until her knuckles turned white. Adrian’s mother—a woman more cunning and cruel than Adrian had ever been.
"The game isn't over, is it?" Seraphina looked at Julian.
Julian straightened his tie, a predatory smile returning to his lips. "It’s just getting interesting. Shall we go and meet the ghost of your past?"
