Chapter 10: Choose You

483 Words
I chose him. The word wasn't spoken. It was breathed. Into his mouth. I kissed Khalil Adeyemi. Not because he blackmailed me. Not because he paid ₦73 million. Not because he had me trapped. But because when he said "I'm asking for you," something in my chest cracked open. His hands fisted in my hair instantly, like he'd been starving for it. Like The Shark finally caught the one thing he couldn't buy. The kiss was nothing like the closet. That was war. This was... surrender. And victory. Both at once. "Zara," he groaned against my lips. My name. Not Mrs. Adeyemi. Not Anon. Zara. I pulled back, breathing hard. "Five percent." He blinked. "What?" "Equity. You get five percent of NairaFlow," I said, hands flat on his bare chest. His heart was hammering. "Silent. No voting rights. No board seat. And..." I swallowed. "You teach me." "Teach you what?" His voice was wrecked. "How to be a Shark," I said. "You said Anon was brilliant but alone. Fine. I don't want to be alone anymore. I want you. As my husband. As my..." The word hurt. "Partner." For a second, Khalil Adeyemi looked stunned. Then he laughed. Real. Shocked. Delighted. "Five percent," he repeated. "You drive a harder bargain than my grandfather." "You paid ₦73 million before breakfast," I said. "I think I can afford to be generous." His forehead dropped to mine. "You're going to ruin me, aren't you?" "Only if you let me," I whispered. His mouth found mine again. Slower this time. Deeper. Like he had all the time in the world to learn me. My phone buzzed on the counter. Dami: `We need to talk about Anon. I know it's you. Meet me. Or I go to the press.` Khalil saw the screen. His body went rigid. The Shark was back. "He knows," I said. "He won't talk," Khalil said, voice ice again. "Not after I buy KolaTech at 9am tomorrow." He kissed my temple. Once. Possessive. A promise. "Eat your breakfast, Mrs. Adeyemi," he said. "Then we're going to your office. Together." "Why?" "Because," he said, smirking, "Anon is about to introduce her new silent partner to the board." My stomach dropped. "Khalil—" "Trust me," he said. The words were foreign on his tongue. But he meant them. "Or don't. But you're mine now, Zara. Five percent, one year, one life." He picked up his coffee. Saluted me with it. "Welcome to the empire, partner." The game had changed. I wasn't just a ten-million-naira wife anymore. I was Anon. And the Shark just became my ally. Dami Kolawole didn't stand a chance. [END OF FREE CHAPTERS] **Author's Note: Thank you for reading!
