I blink back in shock, turning to look at Gareth whose expression doesn't betray the lie he has just told. I wonder why he said those words. My shock is laced with relief. I don't know what I would have done if he hadn't come to my rescue. His arm around my waist is a reminder that he is in control right now, that he will get me out of this trap even without knowing the real truth.
