CEDRIC’S POV What hurts more than having hope is losing it. I know that now more than anyone. I had thought my life was finally turning a corner after my seed took root in Alana. And for a while it was. It truly was. But the cruel hand of fate, always ready to ruin my life, reached out and stole away my joy. I had grown to like who I was around that time. I was less combustible, more accessible and less prone to violence or drinking or any other vice unfitting for a king. But the vacuum in my soul right now feels too huge to fill, and I find that I'm chomping at the bit to fill it with anything—wine, women, rage, anything.
